“Nice Marriott, not particularly memorable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

It is a nice chain hotel. The rooms were a little cramped for a family of 4, but the bed was comfortable and bathroom was nice (though small). The view of the downtown was nice.

Breakfast was very nice - big buffet with omlettes and waffles.

Location was ok - it was a 15 minute walk to the train station and then another 15 minutes to the old town. After a long day, walking back to the hotel was a bit of a drag.

Ultimately, it is a Marriott... big, clean, comfortable, not much character

Room Tip: High floor facing downtown

The hotel had a high rating from the Michelin red guide and I was sceptical as my experiences with Marriotts in the past have been good beds but little else to get excited about.
I had booked a superior room and was offered a 60 Swiss franc upgrade to a suite, which I highly recommend if given the chance to upgrade, as this is a really good deal. It included free parking and wifi which alone would have been CHF60, but also included access to the executive lounge with free good breakfasts plus drinks and nibbles during the day.
The corner suite was on 31st floor with great views and was very comfortable in every respect with a good selection of English TV channels. The bed and pillows were really comfortable, being the hallmark of better Marriotts.
The hotel staff were all incredibly helpful ( particularly the 2 Tibetan porters) and service was fast and efficient with help with parking and retrieving the car and luggage services.
The Thai restaurant (The White Elephant) was excellent if somewhat pricey, with great service and Thai charm.
The hotel is well placed being just 10 minutes walk from the train station and the Bahnhofstrasse, a shopper's paradise.
We have generally stayed in more expensive hotels in Zurich but if they maintain the standard of this stay it will be our regular hotel in Zurich.

My husband and I love everything about this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in September 2012. The location is excellent (only downfall is that you have to walk past a seedy adult theatre to get to/from town but that isn't the Marriott's fault). The breakfast is phenomenal--anything you could ever wish for. I am not a breakfast person and usually not interested in morning hotel food but this was definitely an exception. It was lovely to start out the day in a beautiful restaurant surrounded by a myriad of delicious offerings. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and the beds were quite comfortable. Even though we were excited to continue on the rest of our trip, we were sad to leave the Marriott because we felt so pampered from check-in to check-out. Luckily, we returned to the hotel before flying back home and it was a nice note to end on. We would stay there again without hesitation on our next visit to Zurich.

Room Tip: High floor, south facing rooms have amazing lake views.

I've been staying there last week for a business meeting and I really recommend this place. Everything was great, the location of the hotel, the room (very comfortable) and the staff.
It was a good experience and I definitively go there for my next trip.

We had a wonderful 2 night stop over at his hotel. The room was spacious and clean and he staff went out of their way to make sure that we where well taken care of. All staff members paid particular attention to our small children - which always goes a long way. The executive lounge was excellent and had a wide variety on offer. Another huge bonus - coloring in books, pens and activities where available to help keep he children distracted
. Would definitely recommend

We arrived at the hotel around 9am on my birthday after an all-night flight (actually, 2am our time). We were hoping to check in early. While our room wasn't ready, the staff member at the front desk noticed it was my birthday, mentioned it, and immediately escorted us to the executive lounge to enjoy breakfast and a lovely place to wait for our room. She phoned housekeeping and asked them to place a priority on cleaning our room. The breakfast was fantastic--fresh fruit, eggs, rosti, sausages, cheeses, meats, pastries, cereals, European breads, dried fruit, juices, etc. After about an hour my husband checked with the staff member. We were shocked. Our room was ready--unlike our typical experience at U.S. properties. Later that day a room service attendant arrived with a gift for my birthday--including a card hand-signed by all of the staff on duty and another handwritten note from the manager. We were also presented with a box of Swiss chocolates. Every staff member I encountered that day wished me a happy birthday. And remember, this is a high rise hotel and we were not staying in a suite. In fact, we had used Marriott points for the stay! The room was good size and immaculate. We stayed for two nights and wished we had booked for longer. Needless to say, this stay set a most positive tone for our entire trip in Switzerland.

Room Tip: I highly recommend an executive level room based on the breakfast and services in the executive loun...

Stayed here for one night with my husband and son. The room was ready on arrival (we arrived just after check-in time of 2 p.m.) with the extra bed made up for my son. The check-in person was very polite and helpful. The room, while on the small side, had more than enough space to put things away (very much lacking in some hotels), there were plenty of fluffy towels in the bathroom. The bed was absolutely heavenly, very comfortable. Service and food at breakfast was faultless, they even went out of their way to make pancakes for my son even though it was not on the menu. Location is very good to the city, and is great if you are going to see a show at the Hallenstadion as it is on the same tram line, making it very practical. Overall, surprisingly good!
