I had done some research before booking into this hotel (as I always do, mostly with TA) since we were just going to Zurich for our first time and for two nights... better don't get the wrong place! The idea was to stay on a nice hotel, reasonable price and well located (so not to have to relay on common transportation when going to the Old Town).
Was all pretty much last minute, so had to conform ourselfs with whatever was left.
My thought previously was to stay right in the Old Town (and had considered the Adler hotel or similar) but some reviews stated that, if you go on a weekend, batter stay away from it at night since it can be noisy, all youths in Zurich go out in the Old Town, and it is right, would have been too noisy indeed!.
So, the Marriott is a bit further north, but is a lovely walk right by the river, so choosed the Marriott.
It really is not bad at all. Check-in and check-out good and smooth, they seem to be a bit too serious but they are efficient (after all, this is German Switzerland, even the locals say that service is never too good, so better too serious than too bad!).
All good there. Hotel is spotless, they seem to be cleaning all the time, and the hotel's manager is out there to check is all been done again and again.
A bit disapointed as I was thinking on a room in a high floor, because of the beautiful views, but instead I was given a room in the extension to the side, which is a 3-floor building, and a bit far from the reception area. Not views at all there, only overlooking a tired parking lot. But the room was good enough, very clean (and so was the bathroom... BTW, that green-greish-pinky marble was a bit funny looking, but you get used to it! lol). I guess is my faut, because I booked the cheapest room available, otherwise I would have been in the newly refurbished Tower.
The good thing in that small building, is that I think we were the only ones in there! I never saw not one person there apart from us and the maids.
Good selection of snacks and drinks on the mini bar (which you also pay dearly as in every five star hotel) but good to have it. I tried the cheesy looking local wine, which comes on a red bottel with the white cross on it, same as their flag. And it was not bad at all!
Breakfast was really really good and very welcomed every morning. One of the best selections I've seen in a long time! Is also been served on a nice room with beautiful views over the canal.
A bit disapointed on Saturday night, when my partner decided to take a nap late on the afternoon before going clubbing, I thought about going down to the bar and have a glass of wine there but I was told that the bar was closed to the public and reserved for a private party. There was no one yet there, and still they refused to serv me even to tale the glass somewhere else. And there's no other bar in many blocks around there! I'm sure they can do better than that.
But, overall and to finish this, I have to say that the Marriott Zurich is a good option and would deffo stay there again!
