“Nice stay at the Marriott Zurich”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2007

I had done some research before booking into this hotel (as I always do, mostly with TA) since we were just going to Zurich for our first time and for two nights... better don't get the wrong place! The idea was to stay on a nice hotel, reasonable price and well located (so not to have to relay on common transportation when going to the Old Town).
Was all pretty much last minute, so had to conform ourselfs with whatever was left.
My thought previously was to stay right in the Old Town (and had considered the Adler hotel or similar) but some reviews stated that, if you go on a weekend, batter stay away from it at night since it can be noisy, all youths in Zurich go out in the Old Town, and it is right, would have been too noisy indeed!.
So, the Marriott is a bit further north, but is a lovely walk right by the river, so choosed the Marriott.
It really is not bad at all. Check-in and check-out good and smooth, they seem to be a bit too serious but they are efficient (after all, this is German Switzerland, even the locals say that service is never too good, so better too serious than too bad!).
All good there. Hotel is spotless, they seem to be cleaning all the time, and the hotel's manager is out there to check is all been done again and again.
A bit disapointed as I was thinking on a room in a high floor, because of the beautiful views, but instead I was given a room in the extension to the side, which is a 3-floor building, and a bit far from the reception area. Not views at all there, only overlooking a tired parking lot. But the room was good enough, very clean (and so was the bathroom... BTW, that green-greish-pinky marble was a bit funny looking, but you get used to it! lol). I guess is my faut, because I booked the cheapest room available, otherwise I would have been in the newly refurbished Tower.
The good thing in that small building, is that I think we were the only ones in there! I never saw not one person there apart from us and the maids.
Good selection of snacks and drinks on the mini bar (which you also pay dearly as in every five star hotel) but good to have it. I tried the cheesy looking local wine, which comes on a red bottel with the white cross on it, same as their flag. And it was not bad at all!
Breakfast was really really good and very welcomed every morning. One of the best selections I've seen in a long time! Is also been served on a nice room with beautiful views over the canal.
A bit disapointed on Saturday night, when my partner decided to take a nap late on the afternoon before going clubbing, I thought about going down to the bar and have a glass of wine there but I was told that the bar was closed to the public and reserved for a private party. There was no one yet there, and still they refused to serv me even to tale the glass somewhere else. And there's no other bar in many blocks around there! I'm sure they can do better than that.
But, overall and to finish this, I have to say that the Marriott Zurich is a good option and would deffo stay there again!

Lovely room with access to the club lounge..
Normally they are just average but in this hotel the club lounge is great, I can really recommend to book a room with access to the lounge: great and very tasty snacks and all kinds of drinks available all day long!
The location of the hotel is fine..

  • Liked — the lounge with the snacks and drinks is very good
  • Disliked — the lobby is a bit boring

The best advice with the Zurich Marriott is probably "don't judge a book by its cover!" A rather bland looking skyskcraper on the edge of the city centre conceals what, following refurbishment, is a very nice 5 star hotel.

We arrived in town by train, a smooth ten minute journey from the airport. The Marriott is a further ten minutes walk away, no major hassle to get to.

Our room, 2912, was a Business Deluxe room and, whilst not the largest I have ever stayed in, certainly one of the best. The room itself was almost in two halves, the left hand side contained the entrance, a toilet and the room's seating/desk area. To the right was the huge and very comfortable king-size bed, another small corridor lead to the shower room. This contains a large shower area with a very powerful and hot shower! There was no bath, which some people may not like. The view could have been better as it was up river, away from the city. The rooms have a 26" widescreen LCD TV with one of the best selection of channels I have ever seen. British guests need not worry about missing their favourite programmes as not only are BBC 1 & 2, ITV1, Channel 4 and 5 available, local regional variations are too!!!

The breakfasts were good, plenty of hot food, including the inevitable but very tasty rosti, plus bacon, sausage, meatballs, eggs, pancakes, waffles, fruit, pastries etc, etc, etc.

We only used the bar on one evening, local beer is available and the bar area is pleasant enough.

Overall service was friendly and helpful, the receptionist gave us a quick overview of what is what in Zurich.

A 10-15 minute walk will get you to either the Old Town or the start of Bahnhofstrasse for the shoppers.

Overall, I would have no problem recommending this hotel.

  • Liked — Clean, modern, comfortable
  • Disliked — No major issues.

We got a great deal thru priceline. The hotel is very nice. The beds were comfortable and luxurious. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from other shops/restaurants. We drove and there is parking garage next to the hotel for 38CHF.

When we were there, it was windy and cold, so we ended up eating at the thai restaurant at the hotel. The food is overpriced -- 17CHF for a cup of soup. The food was a little above average. Our restaurant bill was more than our one night stay at the hotel.

We spent a weekend here and I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. The staff are so friendly and helpful and we asked lots of questions......It was so nice to be greeted with big smiles from everyone - concierge, reception staff, bar staff, restaurant staff, housekeeping, duty manager. They have a marvellous staff team here!

The service was excellent, breakfast buffet gorgeous, our room was fabulous - we were upgraded to a corner business deluxe room so thank you for that. The view out over Zurich was breathtaking.

You can walk into the town centre in 5 - 10 minutes. It is a 5 minute walk from the train station. The lake is about a 15 - 20 minute walk if you can drag yourself past the shops along Bahnhofstrasse!!

The only thing I didn't like is that as Switzerland does not appear to have any anti -smoking legislation, people smoke cigars and cigarettes everywhere and smelling smoke in the bar and lobby is something I thought I wouldn't have to endure in a hotel ever again. Walking through a fog of smoke to get in and out of the hotel was horrid. But it didn't spoil a lovely weekend!!

I had a business meeting here for 3 days. It was a great hotel for my meeting - close to airport, great location, a lot of business meeting rooms, and friendly staff.

The restaurant on site is great as well. I highly recommend this hotel.
