“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Rarely do I end up at a place that is as flawless as the Dolder. You're paying a fairly steep price but you know what you're paying for. The rooms (we stayed in both new and traditional ones) are great, the service is great, the location is great. If you want to spend a weekend in Zurich and make sure it is memorable I highly recommend this hotel.

I checked in for 2 night and they asked for c/c approval for the nights(1600sfr) and for extra(600sfr)
I duly digited my Pin on the machine
The day after i got an other charge on my c/c for 100sfr
They did not ask me
If the first time they asked my Pin and the second no,it means they kept track of it
The final bill was lower than the first approval
They explained that it is their policy to make sure there is enough credit(4%!)
Now i have to check that they cancelled the extra amount and they don t use without my consent my c/c again
My policy is not to go in this place again

Dear Guest

We refer to your feedback via e-mail and your review on Tripadvisor.

Our credit card transaction system corresponds to a largely standardized procedure as implemented in many hotels and other operations in Switzerland. The security and integrity of your payment information was at no point jeopardized nor was there a transaction on your credit card without your consent. We regret that your perception is a different one and would like to reassure you that we regularly monitor and follow all security regulations in that regard, in order to ensure the highest possible comfort.

The payment process when paying your hotel bill by credit card by default is as follows: At check-in, after inputting the pin code, the credit card is authorized with the necessary amount to cover room rate and potential extras. The authorization amount is hereby explained. At check-out and upon receiving the guest’s consent, the amount of the open balance is charged to the credit card upon check-out. With this transaction any excess authorisation is automatically cancelled and cannot be used anymore. Since this procedure is considered as one transaction, it does only require a single pin input. For a further charge, however, a re-authorisation from your side (pin or signature) would be required. In terms of the specific authorization of your credit card, we have already informed you about our standard to regularly reconcile open accounts with the authorized amounts and the exact procedure in your case. Should you have any further questions, please kindly let us know.

We appreciate your understanding and truly hope to welcoming you back to the Dolder Grand in the near future. Until then we wish you all the best.

Yours sincerely

This hotel was one of the best we have ever stayed at. It was impossible to fault the quality of the accommodation or the level of service provided. The location us very quiet, next to a golf course and forest area, yet only 15 mins from town with a shuttle service. The rooms were beautifully appointed - we stayed in the historic part and would recommend the delux room class with balconies as the views are just lovely. The garden restaurant was excellent, again, as it was summer, with a lovely outlook as we could eat on the terrace. Reception and concierge services were outstanding - helpful without being over the top. The only small fault we could find was that the pool area was closed as the season had ended - might be worth reconsidering when it is only the first week of September and the temperatures are in the high 20s! Next time we come to Zurich we will definitely return to the Dolder.

Dear Guest

Many thanks for your recent stay at the Dolder Grand and for writing so favourably about us.

We are delighted to hear that you had a great time with us and not only reward our dedication to an attentive service culture but also the quality of the served culinary delights in our Garden Restaurant. Furthermore, we are happy that you appreciated the appearance of the room in the Main Building with its fantastic views from the balcony.

In terms of your comment regarding our Dolder Sports facilities, we wish to inform you that due to preparations for the winter season (open-air ice rink) the summer season ends no later than on the first weekend of September. In addition, a special event took place in the area of the Dolder Sports this year, wherefore we had to close the Dolder pool even a few days earlier than usual.

We hope to be able to welcoming you back next summer, so that you can then enjoy our open air pool. Until then we wish you all the best.

Yours sincerely

everything is perfect except for sliding doors, it slammed every once in a while.. i convinced my self that it's air pressure and all, although i'm not sure how it works on sliding doors. the next day i discovered that it happened to my friend as well! so if you're looking for such kind of experience, this is your hotel.

Room Tip: ghosts are located in the main building..

Many thanks for your recent stay at the Dolder Grand and for your positive remarks.

First of all, we are delighted to hear that you had an enjoyable time and that we could meet your expectations. This magnificent property overlooking Zurich (with its own tram into town) has always represented the finest in Swiss hospitality. But it has recently been totally refurbished and now stands at the pinnacle of fine service and tastefully luxurious surroundings. A must for anyone wishing to re-live the pleasures of the finest in food, accommodations and surroundings.

Room Tip: One with a lake view.

The Dolder Grand in its entirety = Design. Space. Modern. Exquisite. Zen. Tranquil. Calm. Serene. Comfort. Relax. Stayed in many a beautiful hotel, but none compares to The Dolder Grand. It was truly an Ultimate experience.
In my opinion, the staff is what makes a hotel stay comfortable & memorable. Thats why our stay at The Dolder Grand was an Ultimate experience because not only was The Dolder Grand a Superior Hotel to a fault, it had staff equally 1st Cass to boot. I was expecting "butler-like" service- impersonal & overtly professionally courteous, but we were pleasantly surprised at how Genuinely Warm, Helpful & Friendly the staff are!
We stayed for 3nights but unfortunately, didn't have time to spa- valid reason to visit Zurich again!
PS. I loved taking the funicular up to the hotel- twas like my private stairway to a heavenly place!

Our stay of two nights was perfect: our room with tiny balcony overlooked the golf course and Zurich to the Swiss Alps. Welcome by staff and service could not be faulted. The indoor pool and the outdoor spas are magic. The massages and facials are sophisticated and rejuvenating! Dining in the Garden restaurant was indeed a delicious experience. Room service was prompt and friendly. And catching the little train - the Dolder Bahn, into Zurich made it even more wonderful.

Room Tip: For tradition select a room in the original wing of the hotel.
