“Great area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Zurich altstadt has it's own charm. Take time and stroll through this winding streets.Lots of interesting shops and keep an eye open for the chocolate shops.

Zwingli, one of the reformers of church history lived in Zurich. See the Grossmunsterchurch.
In the Fraumunster is some work of Mark Chagall.

“Great stroll along the river, very scenic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Very scenic from multiple angles and stops, although not as warm and romantic as Paris or Venice, and lack the metropolitan feel of Venice. Best panoramic view is to get up to the top of the Lindenhof, very romantic.

“Land of a hundred restaurants”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Spent most evenings in the Old Town area. Great variety in restaurants. Not really a tourist trap as the majority of the folks up there were natives. Runs the gambit from honky tonk to fine dining. Quite safe to stroll.

“Walk the walk around the old town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

Zurich is about wandering around Old Town and chilling at some of the numerous pavement cafes etc. Transport must be one of the best in the world with frequent buses, trains and trams that run like clockwork. We were there for the annual festival of burning the Winter Guy and welcoming in Spring. Prior to this there was a parade with mounted horsemen and bands on Monday afternoon with sections reappearing in the old streets right up to midnight. This is the main festival and a holiday atmosphere was everywhere with lots of additional eateries springing up along the lakeside. I think there was tens if thousands of people around and it took nearly 20-30 minutes to get out of the crush.

We didn't bother with a Zurich card as most things were walkable and Museums are closed on Mondays. Talk to the Tourist Information office in the main train station before committing to spending your money. Zurich is expensive and there are cheaper options if you look around. Migros (there are a number of them) are worth a look if your food and drink budget is limited.
