I visited here two years ago and gave it four stars then, I'm giving it four again but was tempted to give it three for it's expensive rooms and a certain lack of something, a je ne sais quoi!
So what's good?
It's clean and tidy, centrally located and the food is nice. All aspects that you would expect of a hotel in this class, and all well done. The rooms are clean and well equipped, although you have to pay for in room wifi, free in the lobby. The rooms have an odd 'breakfast bar' feel with a counter and glass wall between them and the bathroom. I'm aware of several friends with a certain reluctance to use the bathroom in public, even if the 'public' is their partner. They would have interesting issues in these rooms, but I quite like them. Dinner was nice, as you expect of a hotel like this, but again nothing shone through.
What's less good?
As we sat in the lobby bar talking the hotel slowly shut around us. They served us one last drink before midnight then the staff all disappeared. If you've worked a long day it can be nice to sit up and talk, or may be necessary. Obviously not here at the City Garden. They also told us they would have to turn the lights off on us. If we wanted light we had to sit in reception. Not how you expect to treated in a hotel of this class, or for this cost.
What don't I like?
The hotel feels airless. It feels like it's air-conditioned to the point of sterility, not cold, just dry and bland. You sit between the lake and the mountains and fresh air is in short supply. You're forced to open your LARGE bedroom windows if you want to breathe. I should point out I'm not a fresh air fiend, I don't need to sleep with windows open, but in this hotel I feel that I'm a child in a parked car with the windows shut. It may be the airlessness that just makes the tick-box nature of the standard 4 star hotel less than it ought to be. Whatever it is it needs to find it. I would rather find somewhere else next time I return to Zug.

Well, the City Garden is a Design Hotel with a very modern interior decoration. As everybody knows, taste is different, however most of our guest like the design of our hotel rooms very much.
All our hotel rooms are equipped with modern fan coil air condition for warming up or cooling down. Especially during the hot summer days our guests appreciate the cool and fresh air in the rooms. For the ones they don’t like air conditionned rooms, they can switch off the air condition. The windows of all our rooms at the City Garden Hotel can be opened aside, however not the whole window.
During the week the City Garden Hotel is closing down around midnight, however, our guests can stay in our lobby as long as they want and - of course – with lights on. I apologize for the incorrect behavior of my staff.
