Me, my husband and our little son stayed in Excelsior Grand Hotel in May 2012 for 1 night. We actually were looking for a nice, not overpriced hotel with swimming pool to relax after a hard working week and should say, we found all we needed in Grand Excelsior. Upon reservation we asked for upgrade and early check-in and were positively impressed to get the room at midday upon arrival and upgrade to Miami Junior Suite number 715, located on ground floor.
The hotel is adjoining to the Clinic Biotonus, so most part of the rooms reserved for clinic. Hotel also has apartments for long stay clients. Spa-health center is mostly equipped with proffesional medical equipment, and hotel provides not only cosmetic but medical procedures.
This fact, that hotel is operating mostly for clinic patients, played a very positive role. We arrived in Saturday, out of season, when all clinic patients left for week end. So, we were almost the only clients. Do not expect portier and a lot of staff around, but for the ones, looking for calm pause, that was exactly what we needed. We arrived, checked-in, served ourselves with luggage to the room. Junior Suite 715 located on ground floor, nice option, but missing lake view a bit. There is nice terrace with a table and chairs outside, but from down one can see only trees and passing by Montreux visitors. Junior suite itself looks very nice, new and very light. It consists of 2 rooms without door separation, 2 bathrooms/toilets - enough space for 3.
All rooms of the hotel are facing the lake, that s great point. If to give advice - avoid taking rooms on train station side (can be noisy) and i would not recommend (unless you like ancient style) taking rooms of standard caregory as they are ones not rennovated.
If you wish to enjoy beautiful lake view ask for room on higher floor - they all have nice balcony, enough to place table a couple of chairs to sit outside.
Theres is a very big swimming pool in the hotel ( good point - open only for hotel guests), there are separate saunas and steam room (however in woman part I did not find steam room, only sauna). But be aware, that they are very tiny - max 2 pax can go inside.
We also used a fitness - very standard, but ok to make standard sport.
I loved most a restaurant for breakfast - so coisy, comfortable place - great to start the new day. Breakfast i should say was very and very good - not huge, but reasonable choice of cold and hot buffet.
In short - to spend quiet and relaxing week end - hotel Excelsior was perfect choice. Nothing disturbed us at all. That is not luxury, staff is not runnung around, but sometimes that is exactly what we need to enjoy each other.
I would not come here in high season, but for short break outside peak period that is good hotel.
Rooms on higher floors will offer nice lake view.
Standard category of rooms are not rennovated.
