“Faded grandeur”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

This hotel is comfortable but rather old-fashioned, particularly the bathroom although it was spotlessly clean. The television wasn't flat-screen and had only 2 English Channels which was disapointing, but otherwise everything was good. The bed was comfortable, the Staff were helpful and polite and the Breakfast buffet was excellent.

Room Tip: The rooms on the street are quite noisy but fine with the windows shut and ventilation open.

We had two rooms for four people and somehow our room is better than the other one especially the bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the washroom was really bright and clean. I actually took a bath there. I also enjoyed the breakfast in the restaurant. They have everything you want from a breakfast buffet. The only down side was that their swimming pool was not opened. It seemed like they have not maintained it for a long time. The city casino is only 5 min walk away and it opens 24 hours a day so you won't be bored. Montreux is extremely beautiful. It was lovely!

We also booked this hotel on booking.com, pictures looked good and so did most of the reviews. The lobby is in need of a remodel, very tired and old looking. If you want an upgrade to a "new" with a lake view that would be another 60SF. We did not opt for that since it was foggy and could not see the mountains so we got the comfort room, 205. This room was very large, clean, tired looking, faced the street, large bathroom with tub/shower but the light (15 watt?) was over the double sink and nothing down by the tub or toilet. Now the AC was like a portable dishwasher with this long pipe that we use to vent our dryer sticking out of it. We finally figured that the pipe has to be vented to the outside so the window has to be open and at night being on the street side anyone talking sounds like they sitting on our bed! They do have free Wifi. I made a mistake when I pulled the plugged out from the wall socket that was charging our computer. The adaptor stayed in the wall and I didn't check! This was the start of trip so I emailed the front desk to see if they could send it along to either of our next 2 hotels. They replied "that this was their adaptor and they lent it to me so they could not send it along'! I could not believe it! Why would I email you if it was yours! I learned that all hotels do have adaptors but put a deposit for them on your room until you return it. Which was not the case here. I was very upset, I sent an email back asking him to check with his manager. 4 or 5 days later another email came that they would send it back to my home in the US! No apology, nothing! I can not recommend this hotel based on ingriety and truth. Not so of the other 4 hotels we stayed at in Switzerland which bent over backwards to help!!

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

When I spent GBP130 a day booking this hotel I thought I was going for a little luxury. Yes, I know real luxury comes at an even higher price tag, but I was not expecting what is, sadly, a decadent hotel that might once be one of the best in town. The room was spacious, without character, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom recently renovated. Our room was facing the street, which can be very noisy at night, so who knows how much they charge for a lake view. The food for breakfast was fantastic, but again the ambiance was not so good. All in all we did have a decent stay, but for the price we pay and the expectation we had, we're not going back.

Room Tip: The street can be very noisy at night. Parking is either very expensive in the shopping centre nearb...

We have booked our room online via booking.com and while checking in this room was not available. The Front Desk Agent left us waiting for around 1.5 hours and seemed to be very stressed. Once checked in in the Dependance in a different room, air condition didn't work and bath rooms were old for a 4star hotel. Although we were repeat Guests and complained, Management didn't seem to be interessted. This is a bad example for Swiss Hospitality and next time we will choice another Hotel!

We might have had an old and ugly room just beacuse we bought the reservation on internet hotelsbooking.com - we did have a rather good rate for Switzerland's average (160.-) however ....we will certainly not return there and not recommend it either!
Furniture was old, no harmony in the room, it smelled of humidity and the only nice thing was the LITTLE bathroom and comfortable materrasses.
Ground floor, window on the street, noisy and sad. Horrible view.
Hotl should have informed us that the offer was....not worth the price! we could have found much better in Montreux that night.

Room Tip: Try to call the hotel before getting there and ask them mainly NOT TO GIVE YOU a room on ground floo...

Decadent slightly fading classical elegance in a wondrous town. Breakfasts are fabulous. Quiet. Excellent view of lakefront. Wrought iron chairs a little uncomfortable. Spacious rooms. Frayed carpeting. Great value.

Room Tip: all rooms are great.
