“Quiet place with a lovely view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

Very good location, right in front of lake Geneva, and very welle connected (2 minutes from the subway station). Nothing fancy in the decoration but the room was very clean and quiet, even though it faced the street. Very kind sevice. Nice breakfast

Room Tip: There are a few rooms on the back

I stayed at this hotel late September. The room was perfect for my needs. Clean, quiet and comfortable. I had a room on the top floor with a lovely view of the lake. The staff spoke perfect English and were helpful & friendly. Breakfast and wi-fi were included in my room rate of 160 CHF per night. Breakfast was very good with many choices (not just cereal, bread & juice) and you could eat out on the terrace if you wanted to. Compared to the other major hotel chains in this area, this was a steal! There is noise on the street until about 11pm and then it calms down. Upon check in, you are given a transit pass which will take you up the hill and into the town center as many times as you want to go. The metro couldn't be easier to navigate and Lausanne is small enough to walk around and enjoy. There are many dining options (budget & high-end) in the upper town. For great burgers & fries, eat at Holy Cow. If you'd like to take a boat ride, there is a ferry across the street which will take you across the lake to the village of Evian (40 minute trip). I would definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Lausanne.

Room Tip: If you are a very light sleeper, bring earplugs and ask for a room that does not face the street.

Hotel du Port has very good location near the port. In the morning, during breakfast you can take a fresh breath because restaurant is opened to the port. Hotel is located at the street full of other hotels and restaurants where you can spend your spare time.

If you arrive to the airport in Geneve (my case) you can take a train and go to Lausanne. In Lausanne- Gary take a metro and go to Ouchy station and you are there - 100m and you are in the Hotel du Port. When you are looking from the hotel you can see the port and beautiful mountains in the background. Stunning!

Receptionist has a great sense of humour and can inform you on all important news. Very kind and opened.

Nestled between the big boys (Angleterre, Chateau d'Ouchy and the Beau Rivage) this family run hotel and restaurant is a real gem.
Wonderful view across the lake for a very sensible price. Comfortable rooms with friendly service and a warm welcome.
Try the set menues at their harbour front restaurant. Great value for money and delicious choices.
A real secret tip in Lausanne

This hotel surpassed my expectations in every respect - and how rare is that?

The location is superb - right by the beautiful lake with stunning views; one minute's walk from the Metro Ouchy which delivers you (free with card from the hotel) to Lausanne centre; three minutes' walk at most from the boat booking office. (Tip - get to the boat booking office in plenty of time, there are long queues of ditherers.)

The room was much larger than other European hotels which charge far more;
There was a bathtub, not just a tiny shower cubicle;
The windows opened - a small point? Not when the night is hot;
Thanks to a tip from TripAdvisor, I asked for a kettle to make our own early morning tea and this was no problem whatsoever;
Choice of pillows (they are in the closet) - how rare is that?
TV in room had English channels - this in the middle of Switzerland;
I asked for more towels - no problem whatsoever.
Housekeeping/cleanlinless - no problems whatsoever.

Towards the end of our stay I found out that there is a free internet computer for guests on the 1st floor (not advertised) - but the reception staff very obligingly answered all my questions on their own computer. I cannot comment on the wi-fi, because I go away to get away from all that.

There is no point in paying extra for a lake view room. How much time do people spend in their hotel bedrooms looking out at the view? We had a city-side room which was dark and quiet at night.

Breakfast and two evening meals in their restaurant were very good. Breakfast was included in the room rate with swift service of tea/coffee. The help-yourself buffet was absolutely fine. I have had far worse in more expensive hotels. Evening meals, both times, were delicious, beautifully presented and with excellent service. Yes, it is expensive, but so is eating out anywhere in that country.

There are plenty of other (decent) restaurants within walking distance; all about the same price but with much more street noise and over-stressed waiters.

At the Hotel du Port, they really work hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Every single member of staff we met was friendly and welcoming. I couldn't recommend this small, well-run, hotel more highly. There is absolutely no need to stay at any of the nearby double-the-price establishments. Save the money for very expensive food and drink, and stay here instead.

Room Tip: Don't bother booking a lake-side room; city-side is fine.

What a lovely little place this is, situated on Lake Geneva with views out over the lake if you ask for a lakeside room of course. It’s obvious that some thought has gone into the design in this place with things like the lights turning on outside the rooms when you step out of the lift. The room was bigger than I’ve come to expect in Europe, with a generous and comfortable bed, opening windows and a fan in the room, all of which we gratefully used as it was quite humid the night we stayed. Despite it being on a “main road” we didn’t find any problems with traffic noise even with the windows open (perhaps that also says something about how tired we were!). Choice of pillows, plate of chocolates was a nice touch. Breakfast was served downstairs and had a good range of cereals, yoghurt, breads, sliced meats etc and was included in the price. Watch out for the cheeky little sparrows who are more than willing to share your breakfast with you! Convenient to Metro line that runs up and down from the lake to the old town, with the main train station about a third of the way down. Really pleasant stay, just not long enough. Next time….

Room Tip: lakeside rooms are worth the extra money

We had a 4 night stay at the hotel and found it very comfortable. We had a lake view which was gorgeous. The windows were good in blocking out street noise at night, though there wasn't much of that except for Saturday night. The bathroom had a huge soaker tub which is a nice change from the tiny shower stalls you often find in European hotels. The breakfast was delicious. Though it was the same every day, there were lots of options: various breads, croissants, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, fruit, meat, etc. Certainly enough food to fill you up for a day of sightseeing. The only complaint we have about the hotel was the noise from the cleaning staff in the morning. Our room was at the end of the hall next to the closet for the cleaning staff. We'd be woken up from their talking in the hallway at around 7:30 each day. Other than that, the bed was comfortable and the hotel was otherwise quiet and we could get a good night's sleep- it would just end a little sooner than planned some days. The hotel is extremely convenient to the metro and the ferries. The front desk staff were very helpful and accommodating. They did speak English very well, but were appreciative of our attempts to speak French. One of the staff even told us that she likes to speak English to customers when she can so she can practice.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view. Request a room away from the cleaning staff's closet to avoid early mornin...
