“Room for improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012 via mobile

3 nights at the Hotel Aulac. First the + plus points. They still have smoking rooms if you dont want to freeze outside in swiss winter. My room was clean and tidy, there was a tub in the bathroom, very nice after spending the day with zillion meetings. There was a complimentary bottle of water in the room, very nice. You get a public transportation card and free wi-fi access for the duration of the stay. Overall everything made an OK impression. However the staff in the hotel wasnt best of service team i have seen. The restaurant staff was distant, at times ignorant. I didnt have the feeling that somebody bothered himself to attend to me. Looks like this behavior is customer dependent. As a young professional, it looked like i wasnt as important as the older always-tie-wearing business travelers. Breakfast was one of the most naked breakfast offerings i had yet to see. Dont expect a rich breakfast. One night i arrived at the hotel very late, i didnt have a lighter and sll the shops were closed. Asked at the reception, if they had matches or something, the guy wasnt really bothered to answer me. Restaurant was already closing up i asked one of the head waiters if they had something, same reaction. At the end one waiter found a lighter somewhere, bringing it to me, as if i had asked him to change a flat tyre.
The view on the lake, however, is breath taking, especially when there is snow on the mountains. All in all, 3/5.

Clean, decently quiet, close to downtown due to the subway (in Lausanne, the hotel price includes a pass for all public transportation).
Breakfast is rather French style.
Free wireless available in the rooms.
Being in the old harbour, there is immediate access to boats for trips on the Geneva lake.

An easygoing affordable restaurant by the lakeside, serving a superb classic dish of moules marinières, which you can wash down with a pint of Belgium bière blanche! Service is fast and friendly and the bill will not leave you in a bankruptcy. A great place to go with a bunch of friends.

The hotel is perfectly situated by the lake side and gives a beautiful view. It takes a while for the elevator to come down, it's frustrating when in a hurry. Breakfast was a buffet style the food wasn't anything to brag about. Its edible though. The bathroom was clean. The hotel is perfectly located to all modes of transport

The Hotel Aulac is right on the water's edge in Ouchy, which is literally five minutes from the centre of the city. It is also located right next door to the Metro station, so if you are arriving by train and getting off at Lausanne, walk across the street to the Metro and take a ride to Ouchy and save the CHF15 taxi fare.
The hotel has a very average entry and reception area, but check-in was done efficiently, and a free travel card was supplied to each of us for the duration of our stay. This scheme apparently operates for all hotels in Lausanne. The room we stayed in for four nights was like a small suite...a lounge room in addition to the bedroom, and a toilet separate from the bathroom. All the facilities were clean and in good order, and the beds were comfortable.
The breakfast provided was very generous and suitable for all appetites. All hotels in Switzerland are expensive compared to other European cities (except for Norway where everything is super expensive) but we still believe that Hotel Aulac represents good value for money and would recommend it to other travellers.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on one of the higher floors with a lakeside view, you won't be disappointed.

This restaurant is quite none on Quai d'ouchy the little lake front walkay. It has a good choice of dish and the usual daily menu is well served. From fish to meat, you will find the main known plate with also a certain number of local and regional dish. The team is professional and smily. The director always make a tour to verify how service is done. They have a nice terrace in front (bit to near the road) but also a nice terrace on 1st floor that gives you a nice view on the lake and the alps. no worries you will get for a sure a minimum satisfaction if not a good one :)

The Hotel is close to the Lac Leman and the Harbour of Ouchy. It is very nice to look out from the rooms to the lake - if you book lake-side. The metro station is very close - you get free tickets for the transport system of Lausanne - and you reach the Center in 5 minutes.
Sometimes it is noisy when you have the windows open - close to Street - Clock - Big Boats approaching sound. But everything is OK when you close the windows. (Fan in the room but no Aircon) - Free and fast Internet available.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms have a really nice view, but a bit noisy.
