Really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. We had a junior suite with balcony overlooking the lake. Everything about it was perfect. It was exeptionally clean and modern. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and nibbles which we received twice during the stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We used the facilities of the Beau Rivage and also had a few treatments there. Highly recommended.

Travelled to quite a few of the surrounding towns, including Bern on the train which is very fast and efficient. Transfer from Geneva was exellent.

All in all nothing bad to say about this place and would return again tomorrow.

I think our first perceptions of the Angleterre were clouded by the fact we were supposed to have been in the 5 star Beau Rivage next door- unfortunately they were full and we were sent to the Angleterre as their "sister" hotel. Apparently this happens fairly often. Nobody was sent to escort us and with hazy directions and at 8 months pregnant I had to carry my luggage the 5 minute walk to the Angleterre's reception.

Unfortunately, having compared rooms with friends who did get in at the Beau Rivage, the Angleterre was very much the poor relation. We were staying in the newest building which I'd guess was built in the 60's. It was deeply unattractive and the rooms, although modern and very clean, were drab and smelled strongly of stale smoke. We were lucky enough to have a larger front room which had a partial lake and mountain view, but other side and front rooms were much smaller and had views of the concrete steps. I would have been gutted to have paid the prices they charge and stayed in one of these rooms.

Breakfast was fine - not a huge choice but pleasant enough and we were able to sit on the front terrace overlooking the lake which was lovely.

The pool was small and cold in comparison to the Beau Rivage - the bonuses were that it was always quiet as everyone seemed to be elsewhere. Baskets of towels were provided at this pool but they weren't always replenished.

In summary, this was an ok place to stay but I'd have definitely requested a different room if I'd known to read the tripadvisor reviews before travelling. I feel like we stayed in a totally different hotel from some of the other reviewers, purely down to the building we were in.

This hotel is beautiful. Had one of the balcony lake view rooms which was spectactular.

This hotel is next door to the Beau Rivage, but much less expensive. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights May 2007. The property has three buildings I believe, we were housed in the back building, away from the street. Still, our room had a very decent view of the lake. The room we had was spacious, clean and modern. The staff was very professional, but not warm. We had dinner at the italian restaurant in the hotel which was excellent. For breakfast we went round the corner to a bakery for coffee and croissants, for a few francs. The area where the hotel is located, however, is disappointing. The lakeshore area of this city is not nearly as nice as the waterfront areas in Vevey or Montreux. The walk to the old city and city centre is an aerobic challenge if you are not trained, relatively long and uphill. Although I have nothing bad to say about the hotel, I would stay in another city as a base to visit the northern shore of the lake. If it has to be Lausanne, the location is not the best, but the hotel is excellent.
