How to escape pizzas, pasta, or cheese or meat dishes in Switzerland, on a tight budget and a tight schedule? The Café de l'Hôtel de Ville is the spot! but it is necessary to book, and not be more than 6 people. It is a small old café, decorated with fun paintings and interesting artwork. Only one choice in food when we went at 1:30 pm Friday : a great endive salad, and afterwards a quinoa - vegetable combo for 20 Fr. We also cracked for the mini-brewed beers (delicious if expensive) and home-made chocolate cake. I've heard the place can be full, and service slow - but not in our case, and the people are very nice. We were ahead of time for our 3 pm appointment with a guide of Lausanne to visit the old town.
