We booked this hotel months in advance. We contacted them a week before we arrived. So why didn't they mention that the hotel was wrapped in scaffolding for building works? And that the 'lake view' (that's why you stay there) was obscured by scaffolding. I asked at check in and they said it would be fine but when we got to our room? Lake view through scaffolding and netting, plus a note from management apologizing for any 'inconvenience'. What?! After we met with the front office manager and told them it was unacceptable they moved us to brand new room which was very nice. And they apologised. Just a case of the front office staff (who are fabulous, by the way) having to rectify management arrogance and disregard for fulfilling their promise to guests. We enjoyed Lausanne, but won't be recommending this hotel - there are plenty of others in similarly good lake-front positions.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Movenpick Lausanne with our two young children. Overall, I was very satisfied with the hotel, but some poor service towards the end our visit tainted my experience a bit. The hotel is in a great location in Ouchy, on the water with great views and access to the amazing lake Geneva. The city center of Lausanne is either a quick metro ride (a block away) or a nice walk with gorgeous views. The hotel is modern and looks newly renovated and well-maintained. Our room was spacious with plenty of room for the four of us.

As mentioned, the service was not great. The staff at check-in was quite nice, but thereafter, when I later asked a couple of questions, they did not seem interested in helping. This would not have bothered me much, but on our last morning, we were on our way to breakfast when we saw coffee sitting out by the reception, with people serving themselves. When we also grabbed a cup, a hotel staff person came over and very rudely (and loudly) told us that the coffee was for a group and not for us. If we would have known this of course we would not have touched it, but there was nothing to suggest this. So for the staff then to treat us that way was very upsetting. Later I saw there was a sign up so I assume they just forgot to put it out, but could not be bothered to be nice to us (guests at the hotel) i telling us not to consume it. This was an unfortunate incident but I didn't get the sense that it was isolated.

Again, the hotel has many great attributes and if the service was improved I would go back or recommend it in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view if possible!

The hotel is beautifully located right at the lake (mind you, there is a road with quite some traffic between the hotel and the lake side - however, you don’t hear much of it in the rooms).
You can reach it easily by what the locals call ‘Metro’. It’s just a few stops from the train station in Lausanne. You find the entrance of the ‘Metro’ across the street or in the underground of the station (signage is very poor).
Many guests stay in this hotel to attend the nearby business school IMD. So you will see more than usually expected ppl going in and out in ties and suites (but they all behave nicely ;-) Nevertheless this creates a bit a 'business' atmosphere in the hotel which is rather sober anyway. It's clean, no doubt, but don’t expect anything fancy. The breakfast buffet is very generous for Swiss standards. Internet access is priced at Swiss standards (which means very expensive). Check-in and out are fast and efficient.
The staff is generally friendly, except some waitresses in the breakfast room could improve. The bar is unusually empty in the evenings, which means that there is no loud noise and the prices of the drinks are very 'Swiss'. There are plenty of alternatives in walking distance to get a night cap.

Room Tip: - If you stay there to attend IMD: dont spend the money on a lake-view room. You will spend most of...

I stayed 5 nights there in March 2012. Nice room, with good bathroom and superior bed.
Good breakfast, but same for whole week.
Service ok, but slow in the bar.
Prices are Swiss!
The lake is only 50 metres away.

Having lived in Lausanne for several years recently, we know the area well and chose this property based on price and location. We booked 3 nights, months in advance and were able to find a good price. When we wanted to add on a couple of extra nights much closer to the date, the hotel was completely booked (due to the Geneva car show) and we had to move to another hotel. This hotel is in a great location, on the lake, and very close to a metro stop, which is convenient for getting to the train station and central Lausanne. We were given a free metro card for the length of our stay which was much appreciated as the transport costs, like nearly everything else in Switzerland, are expensive. We booked a lake standard room with a queen bed. Our room was on the 5th floor and the lake view was GREAT. The room was nice and of good size for a European hotel room. There was a small table and a desk and a pot for making hot water, convenient to use with the coffee press that we travel with. Service in the hotel was very good. We ate at a hotel restaurant only one time and enjoyed a promotional Thai menu that was very good. Our only problem with the hotel was having to pay very expensive charges of 18CHF per day for wifi and there was a charge for each device used! My husband and I typically travel with 2-3 devices each, so we are always annoyed by these multiple internet charges. Fortunately, we had a portable, travel router with us so we only paid for 1 device, but we HATE having to pay for wifi at a hotel. Wifi should be free at a hotel of this price range. In fact, we found free wifi at a nearby 3 star hotel. If the Moevenpick were to drop the internet charges, I could more heartily recommend it.

Room Tip: It's worth booking a lake view room. The view is really nice.

Stayed there for a week in March, 2012. Service is very good. Prices are very Swiss. Rooms are pretty large, with 2 big beds. Furniture and rooms themselves need renovating. Food in the resaurant is expencive and not that delicious. Breakfasts are good but the same during the whole week. Good benefit of the hotel is a city transportat card for free for the period of my staying.
