“Can't get better than this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

This is one perfect hotel, from the hosts, to the location/view, to the immaculate condition. We stayed 2 nights in June 2013 in a family room with a view of the Matterhorn. Free taxi picked us up from the train station (look for the free phone board between the train area and the tourist info building). The hotel is in such perfect shape that we thought it had just opened a few months prior and were surprised to learn it had been open 7 years! Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. Spa area is spotless and relaxing. Host,Rosmarie, is caring and welcoming. She helped us with everything from dinner recommendations to ski weather/lift reports. My son had a touch of altitude sickness after skiing and she was so concerned and helpful, allowing us to check out a bit later as they didn't have any guests arriving in our room the next day. Furnishings are eclectic and hand made. Very cool metal and wood working. We HIGHLY recommend this place and hope to return one day.

Room Tip: The family room with loft was perfect for 2 adults and 2 teens. Porch overlooked lilac bushes and of...

Our friends did the legwork finding this hotel and my husband and I couldn't have been more pleased. The staff is enormously helpful and pleasant, the breakfasts delicious and fulfilling and we even splurged on the raclette evening--well worth it. Don't miss the spa, a real treat after a vigorous day outside. We even were able to ski off from one part of the mountain. It's on the opposite end of town from some lifts, though of course the town is tiny so nothing is really far anyway. What it might lose in distance from town it makes up 10-fold in views anyway.

Alpenlodge was a great experience. Even though it is one of the furthest hotels from the downtown area, we enjoyed walking to the slopes, restaurants, and nightlife. It helped burn those extra calories we ingested from the cheese, wine, and bread. The breakfast they provide was delicious. The people working at the hotel, including the owner, could not have been more accommodating. We bought our multi-day, multi-country lift tickets as soon as we checked in. They made us lunch reservations on the mountain, dinner reservations at night. Loved the hospitality. The one thing I wish they had was a hot tub, but the sauna and steam room were relaxing after a day on the slopes. When we go back, Alpenlodge will be on our short list of hotels to consider.

Room Tip: Get a room with views of the Matterhorn. It is an awesome way to wake up everyday!

We booked this hotel at the last minute, and didn't quite know what to expect. Zermatt is very busy during the winter season and it can get tricky to find a room if you don't book in advance - so we just felt lucky to have found a room.

We were pleasantly surprised: the room at the Alpenlodge was bright and nicely furnished, the beds were comfortable and we had a stunning view. What really made us like this place though was the excellent service: the lady at the reception (Tamara) booked us a restaurant for the evening, organised us taxis and also sold us ski tickets so we wouldn't have to queue. She was very pleasant. We also liked the little spa with a sauna and stunning views of the Matterhorn.

Only "negative" point: it is not so close to the city-center, so it's worth to leave your skis back after a day of skiing and return to the hotel by taxi.

Only stayed for one night, but the view in the morning was worth it. Had an early train so could see the sun rise behind the Matterhorn. Only downside would be, there was no restaurant and at 20chf taxi into town, it is expensive to get there and back for a meal.

We stayed here for 2 nights in January. The hotel was very clean, nicely decorated, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious with 2 twin beds and a set of bunks. The complimentary coffee bar was a nice bonus, and the breakfast was fresh and delicious. The only downside was the distance to town. It was easy to walk down (without ski boots), but was easier to hire a taxi for the walk up and when traveling with skis.

Alpenlodge is well managed by its owner 3* hotel. The place is very clean and beautifully designed. We loved The Spa with fantastically organised sauna and relaxing area - our favourite place to chill out after whole day of skiing.
Breakfast offers quality products but is a bit limited. I would add few things there, e.g. porridge.
Room that we had was very nice and clean. Beds were comfortable, shower- hot and powerful.
I really liked how the ski room was organised- easily accessible and clean.

And the most important: fabulous service from Tamara and Rosemary- nothing is a problem, very helpful and kind, always giving us an honest opinion and advice.

We will recommend Alpenlodge to all our friends planning a visit to Zermatt
