“Good view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014 via mobile

The hotel was old fashioned and located a bit up on the Main Street. Our room has a balcony with mountain view which can compensate everything. The breakfast was not good enough when compared with Swiss standard. Since we have to check out very early morning, the staff has offered to pack breakfast for us the night before. He brought 2 bags of packed sandwiches with juices and fruits. Very thoughtful indeed.

We received an exceptionally pleasant greeting when we checked in at Hotel Tschugge. Our room, too, lived up to our expectations being fresh, spacious and comfortable and included a balcony with a view over the town. Because of the hotel's situation, views of The Matterhorn are not possible, but we saw enough of the mountain during our daytime excursions about town and to the Gornergrat to satisfy us. The rooms are contemporary and similar to a business oriented hotel; not for those seeking knotty pine Swiss style. The breakfast was more than substantial and served in a charming dining area. Window boxes filled with well maintained seasonal flowers add to the overall appeal of the hotel. The only downside we found was the fact that the walk to the hotel is a bit of a hike up a fairly steep grade, though it is in the center of the village. The hotel maintains a shuttle service, but it may not always be available as guests come and go throughout the day. Still, take it slow and the walk will be beneficial. We would certainly return.

I absolutely LOVED our experience staying at Tschugge in Zermatt. Perfect service from our ride from the station to the check in to our breakfast! Our room overlooked the city rooftops and mountains. The room, bathroom and walk out terrace were absolutely HUGE! I have stayed in many hotels in Europe, and not a lot have this space for such a reasonable price. Clean, Quiet and Comfortable - my favorite things :) I will be back to stay for sure ....thank you Hotel Tschugge!
P.s. Once you drop your bags, you can easily walk right onto the main street and all around the city.

The hotel is OK, breakfast is good and the downstairs living room is fine. However, the rooms definitely do not deserve 4 stars, they are more from a 3 star hotel. This also applies for the level of service at the hotel: decent but up to a 3-star level.
It has a nice spa, but definitely too small for the number of rooms. After a day of ski, you better show up early or will be waiting in line to enjoy it.

Room Tip: Rooms over the entrance street have a far better view and (obviously) the higher the better.

We stayed here for a week's skiing. Couldn't fault the hotel. Room was spacious & clean. Food was plentiful & tasty , with plenty variety. The staff are all very helpful. Even the walk up the hill is not too bad as previous reviewers have said. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel, in fact we may return to it next year!

The somewhat shaby look of Tschugge hotel reminds me of vacations I spent 40 years ago with my dad, sister and brother. Indeed furnitures, carpets , matress and pillows will soon need to be renewed, when for the noises from one floor to another, there is not much that a venerable building can do about.
Now, of course personel is friendly and ready to walk the extra mile for you, but their work just do not compensate the fundamentals. Shuttle from the station is convenient. Hamman and sauna, the entire wellness center are just great (so often these things are promissed and not given). If your age is between 50 and death (my case unfortunately) you will find the bar just perfect for a night cap. Finally the location just away from main street makes the place conveniant.
So alltogether, not a bad choice, room, a deluxe one was quite large, with a sofa adn a desk, bathroom OK, considering that zermatt is by all mean overpriced. A correct 4 stars, (out of 5 in Suiss), going soon to 3 if nothing happens to brigthen up wall and furniture. A coffe maker in the room, complimentary water, a minibar, could have done the difference, but no, only the hair drier is supplemented, but I am going bald, (so is tschugge)

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We are just home after spending a wonderful 10 day stay at the hotel between the 10th and 20th of July. I do not understand the derisory reviews of some people who spent time at this hotel. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it, We have a lot of experience of hotels in alpine areas of France Italy and Austria, we are walkers rather than skiers so cant comment on accessibility during winter conditions, however, yes it is a stiff climb from the station up to the hotel but the hotel shuttle picked us up and our rep arranged a taxi to take us back to the station for a very early departure. I am 61 and even after a day walking in the mountains was able to cope with the walk up to the hotel. The hotel could not provide breakfast at the time we were leaving but did give us a packed lunch which was adequate. We had ordered a superior room and were very pleased with the size and decor of the room , it had two balconies so you could chose sun or shade. Yes it was 2 singles joined to make a double but this standard procedure in many good continental hotels. The bedding was spotless and regularly changed by attentive staff. My wife was very pleased with the provided toiletries/ sewing pack / manicure set/ shoehorn etc. The shower over the bath was powerful and hot water abundant. The large modern television had channels from many European countries so we were able to keep up with what was going on back home and also watch some of our favourite programmes as well . We did not use the Wellness Area but did have a look at it and it is set high up behind the outdoor bar area of the hotel affording nice views of the town below. Many thanks to Anton and Christina in the dining room for their friendly and attentive service ,they really did help make our stay there memorable, the 5 course evening meal was superb, well cooked and presented. We were asked each evening if the menu was to our liking and had been advised by the manageress at the start of our stay that if the menu had anything we didn't like an alternative would be provided. We never had to use that option ! We ate in the main dining area with its candlelit tables and featured mountain wall . Breakfast was nothing special but adequate with the usual selection of cereals , meats and cheeses, choices of bread , fresh fruit. There was also bacon and eggs. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel was not busy during our stay so perhaps we were a bit spoiled but I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel. In summary it was clean, tidy, friendly , the food was very much to our liking.

Room Tip: Our superior room was very much to my wife's liking with the 2 balconies and extra space making...
