“Hotel Alex is Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

My wife and I recently stayed at Hotel Alex in Zermatt Switzerland. The hotel is very eclectic and cool on the inside, it's a very unique one of a kind place with a ton of character. The staff is very helpful and friendly, rooms are very nice... I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Alex if your ever in Zermatt, you won't be let down!! Even if you don't stay there it's worth a visit for a coffee to check it out!! Happy travels...

Beautiful hotel. Great experience while staying in Zermatt: great decoration, very cosy with alot of character. Sitting area and bar are really cool with alot of people from other hotels come in for a drink or two. Food is really good at the restaurant below. One of the cutest hotels I have been too.

only downside: manager is very rude.

Quintessential Swiss hotel excellent location near the square and rail station. Themed rooms in the main foyer/bar/lobby. Fantastic pool and spa. Rooms were good size, nice balconies and very comfortable.
Restaurant had pictured stained glass windows and embraced the theme of where we were.

We had a group of 5 spread over 3 rooms. All the rooms were different from one another, but equally charming. Reception was most helpful and friendly. Very easy access from the train station, easy navigation to and around the delightful town. The breakfast is one of the best anywhere. The lounge/main lobby has to be seen and enjoyed! Eclectic and vintage alpine, with lots of wood carved ceilings and panels. Rooms are quiet. Open the windows to pull in the fresh and cool alpine air! This is my second stay at The Alex, and I would stay there again if the opportunity arises.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the Matterhorn, but be prepared to pay a little more!

The hotel is in the town, walking distance from the train station, though they will pick you up with your luggage. Service was excellent across the board. Quiet, clean, and large rooms, individually decorated with beautiful bathrooms. The breakfasts and dinners were wonderful, included in our price. The property is expansive with indoor pool, indoor tennis and handball courts and beautiful decorated common areas. This is definitely the place to stay while in Zermatt, which proved to be a wonderful town.

This hotel was not at all what I expected...it was a million times better! I was with a group of travel agents (that is my profession) on a familiarization trip of Switzerland. The hotel looks small from the outside but it is deceptively big! The location is perfect, walking distance from the train station, near shops and restaurants and the main drag in Zermatt. Easy to get to the cable car station to go up to Gornergrat (which you shouldn't miss-great views of the Matterhorn!) Once inside we had room 603 on the very top floor-it was a FABULOUS room! Huge room, outside patio with a view of the city and the mountains (including the Matterhorn!), a fireplace, sitting area, TONS of closet space, an extra bed so you can fit 3 people and a huge bathroom with a giant tub. Some of the friends we traveled with showed us their rooms and they were all charming, big, beautiful and exactly what you hope for when going to Switzerland. The restaurant was wonderful, nice breakfast, great dinner...the bar is huge and the pool is absolutely beautiful and unexpected in a place like this. I loved this hotel so much I cannot wait to come back again (and again and again!)

Room Tip: Rooms 603 and 602 are amazing!!!

This hotel was introduced to me by my parents who have stayed here for years. And am not surprised that they keep going back. When i normally go away skiing a prefer a ski-in location either on the piste or at the bottom, However this hotel was worth it, The atmosphere is fantastic i felt relaxed from the moment that i arrived. Cant wait to go back!
