“THE BEST”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

We have stayed at this hotel 8 times. It is simply the best. Beautiful rooms with wonderful views .Restaurant staff are excellent and very helpful as are receptionists. We have stayed at other good hotels in Zermatt but none as good as this, not a downside to it at all. Hopefully, health prevailing, we will be back again next year. Looking forward to it already.

Room Tip: Keeping room number to myself in case it is booked and we do not get it! South rooms best.

The Julen is a beautifully run, very cosy hotel. We were given a room with a spectacular view of the Matterhorn and a small terrace with flowers. The rooms were beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The hotel is located right in the middle of Zermatt with great access to hiking and other activities. We had dinner that night and were surprised that it was part of the room price. The dinner was superb, with some excellent Swiss wines by the glass. We would love to go back and stay for a longer time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Matterhorn

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Julen. We were picked up at the station and were a little concerned that we seemed to drive a long way to get to the hotel. However zermatts strict traffic rules meant that we were driven around the the town outskirts to get back to the hotel which in fact is in an excellent position, no more than 5 mins walk from the town centre. We had a south facing room with a shared patio and a wonderful view of the Matterhorn, beautiful especially at dawn and sunset.. The room was excellent and in all the hotels we have stayed in we have never seem such an array of complimentary toiletries. In addition to the usual shower gels etc etc there were razors, toothbrushes toothpaste etc. Breakfast was good and included an excellent choice of delicious breads. The staff were friendly and helpful. Cleanliness was of a very high standard. The hotel has a lovely large indoor swimming pool which we used it on both mornings together with a small gym. It also offers spa treatment which we did not sample. Internet access was free and good. the tv also had the full range of english channels. The hotel has 2 restaurants although we did not eat there in the evenings.

Room Tip: Ask for a south facing room for view of the Matterhorn

This hotel was one of our stops on our 18 day trip all around Switzerland by Swiss Saver Pass and it was one of the best hotels along the way highlighted by the very friendly and gracious granddaughter, Sophia. I highly recommend this hotel if you come to this area and be sure to take in Matterhorn while in Zermatt- beautiful! Zermatt is a wonderful little town that has all electric vehicles as well as trucks and Hotel Julen picks you up at the train station as well as taking you back. Pictures do not do Switzerland justice and their train system is an excellent way to see the country unencumbered by the driving responsibilities.

The hotel has a van which comes to the train station to drive you to the Hotel. It is up on a hill among 135 other hotels in the neighborhood. The room was lovely and relatively large for Switzerland. Breakfast and dinner were included in the room rate and the dining room was elegant with a nice choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts. Food wasexcellent. Breakfasts included fresh made omlettes, fresh squeezed orange juice and wonderful coffee. It is a pleasant walk to the center of town which looks like one would imagine a Swiss town should look like Zermatt is beautiful.
