“Central, spotless clean, good service, internet - great for business stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at the hotel for one night during the business trip. Perfect central location next to shops and Manor store. Next to funicular -if you want a quiet early night or stay longer ask for a quiet room. Modern functional room. Was impressed by spotless clean everything, nice bed and sheets. Lovely helpful staff. The Internet connection is great and costs a minimal amount. Coming from Britain I did not have the Swiss adapter- the hotel lent me one for free for whole stay- just perfect.
Nice breakfast, fresh orange made with juice press in front of you and plenty of juice to have, fresh fruit, selection of yogurts, oats, eggs and pastry.
I would stay again if visiting for work or require a less costly accommodation with great service and facilities.

On arrival we discovered that we weren't assigned a room even though the reservation thru the Cosmos group was made weeks ago. The room they ended up giving us was close to the sky tram (which is like being next to a mini rocket taking off every few minutes from 5:30AM or earlier to 12 Midnight) even though we had requested a quiet room weeks ago. I suspect most of their rooms are impacted by the noise. The room had a non functional AC and the front desk response was that by their determination the room was at optimal temperature and so there was nothing to be done about the AC not working! There was just one person at the front desk and so things could get very slow. The room was small and dated. The shower didn't have space for soap/shampoo bottles and there was no tub. There were safety hazards all over the hotel, from tile sized holes in walkway at the entrance on 5th floor to screws protruding from the floor in the bathroom being used as door stoppers. Insulation between rooms was so bad that everything said in one room could be heard in the other.
The unique part about this (and other hotels in the area) was that the car road entrance is above the 5th floor and reception is on the ground floor next to the mall and trail to the lake.Out of the two lifts one was reserved for staff as it opens in an area used by reception. With the second one, one is not allowed to go to the ground floor where reception is, so count on climbing steps.
Cold breakfast was ok, vegetarian options included bread, milk and cereal, raw fruits and fresh squeezed orange juice.
The redeeming things about this place were i)a nice inexpensive panini/falafal take out place just outside to left of reception (next to air tram) and ii)the lakefront being a few minutes walk from the hotel.
Wifi was available for 2Francs and worked well, though if you need it for just a few minutes some shops nearby offer it for free.

This was strictly an overnighter for us. Tried to stay at the Dante next door but it was fully booked.

Acquarello is a convenient hotel with clean, modern, basic rooms which is centrally located amongst some nice shops and restaurants. Glitzy dated sign, a basic reception and bar. Perfect location for the early morning train to Luzern. Pay a little more so your room is not too close to the noisy funicular which stops about 11pm and starts about 6am.

This hotel could be so much more....

Next door at the Dante we enjoyed personal service and a nice lounge for an evening drink with antipasto.

Take a ferry ride around lake Lugano.

PS The Cafeteria in the basement at Manor Department Store closeby is a winner for fine pizza, gourmet treats, fresh squeezed juice and coffee. Gather a nice picnic and eat at the family gardens by the lake. Gorgeous.

All was clean, functional and fine. But not a room to spend time in. It is close to everything. Lots of restaurants etc walking distance from the hotel. It is very convenient to take the funicular to the station especially with baggage.

This hotel is run by a big lovely family, all staffs are nice, helpful and friendly. Location is in the old city center, and close to shopping malls, just 10 mins walking can reach the lake. Room not very big, but clean and comfortable. Surprisingly, the homemade breakfast is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.

honestly it was fine. Even though our room was just above the boarding point for the funicular it didn't keep me awake, the walls didn't vibrate. The internet here was really, really cheap compared to exorbitant charges at other hotels we stayed in. So the rooms are not that big, but that is the rule in Europe rather than the exception. They were clean, beds comfy. Just a short walk into the shopping area, restaurants and the lake, so location very good. Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotels in this area are very expensive, I would stay here again based on my experience. I was really prepared for the worst with previous reviews but no problems whatsoever.

Rumbling vibrations and noise from the funicular are unavoidable. The rooms were clean, but small and institutional. Don't stay here unless you plan to spend minimal time in the hotel and you manage to get a rock bottom price through a last-minute rooms consolidator on-line. This is not a welcoming accommodation - -neither the physical surroundings nor the staff's interactions with guests.

Room Tip: Insist on a room away from the funicular

By reserving us you have a large choice and all you have to do is to individuate the best deal FOR YOU (suited your needs):
You want a basic and funtional room without spending a fortune? Reserve our Economy room.
You wanna get a room a bit far away the funicular than take a Standard. These rooms are more quiet and some of them face the back of the hotel.
Clients must know that we have also "Superior" rooms, responding at their exigency for pretty quiet ( we are in the very centre of the town after all...), completely new refurbishing (2013!) very confortable rooms.

Our tip: reserve what you need and be sure you will get what you have reserved.
