“Anniversary treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Stayed 2 nights B&B in this beautiful hotel next to the train station. Convenient to the centre of the lovely town of Lugano with all its shops and resturants. Our room was on the 1st floor at the front of the hotel overlooking Lake Lugano and it was well appointed and modern. Breakfast was buffet style and quite extensive. Staff overall were very attentive and helpfull.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front of the main hotel have views of the lake. The annex may be a little noisy as they...

This is an outstanding hotel, about 350metres from the railway station and the Funicular that services downtown. It lives up to all its positive reviews.
Our room was in the recently renovated Main building and was comfortable, airconditioned , had a small refrigerator, twin beds, and an excellent bathroom. The staff are charming and helpful. There is a lift to all floors and plenty of car parking. A superb buffet breakfast with a selection of cereals, juices, fruit, bread and pastries, cold meats and cheeses, hot dishes and tea, hot chocolate and coffee is served in the sunny Conservatory.
The spacious grounds have several walking paths, a small museum and there is an excellent swimming pool.
It is an ideal location away from the bustle of central Lugano which is still easily reached, in two minutes, by the Funicular.

Stayed at this hotel September 2011. It is a 3 minute walk from the train station. When you come out of the train station take a right to get to the hotel. There won't be any signs.

This hotel is really nice inside. We had two rooms. One room had a great view of Lake Lugano, Monte Bre, Monte San Salvador. The single room had a view of the back of the hotel which is very nice. The rooms were very roomy and they both had balcony's.

The grounds are beautiful. There is a swimming pool which is very clean. There are a good amount of chairs to lounge on. Breakfast is included, cereals, breads, jellies, eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurts, pasties etc. Lots to choose from.

The front desk is very helpful. The bar area is very nice.

Lugano is so close to Italy. We stayed there so we could go to Lake Como for a day. Lake Como is only two train stops away. If you decide to go, cruise lake Como and go to Bellagio Italy.

There is a tram at the train station that will take you down to the heart of Lugano and the Lake. We were afraid we would have to walk down so we were happy about the tram. The buses run very frequently also.

The train tracks are in front of the hotel. We had a room facing the tracks. It wasn't that bad.

If I were to go back to Lugano, I would stay here again.

This hotel is conveniently situated on the hill next to the railway station in Lugano to access it you have to use the level crossing. Pros: Reception service wonderful, comfy bed, air conditioned rooms, breakfast wonderful choice with scenic views from restaurant. Cons: Noise from trains if allocated annexe room, extremely bland room decor

Hermann Hesse stayed at this hotel and it is a glamorous hotel.

The hotel is a renovated old hotel but without losing the taste. It is a truly five stars
hotel to polite people. Staff is wonderful , speacially Nicolle that is a so nice person and deserves to be promoted.

The garden, The view, the train station, recomended by Hermann Hesse Museum.

Stay here , because is the best.

When we arrived, we were given a complimentary upgrade, to a suite, which was a large, very luxurious room with two balconies, one of which overlooked Lake Lugano. The bathroom was also quite large, with a roomy shower stall and a Jacuzzi tub. A welcoming basket of fruit and chocolates lasted almost our entire stay. Nicole, at the front desk, accompanied us to our room and showed us how everything worked. Thereafter, she greeted us whenever we passed through the lobby. The hotel was immaculate and in perfect condition. Housekeeping staff are unobtrusive, and do an excellent job. The hotel is set in a large private park with a lovely swimming pool, a charming grotto, and several quiet areas to sit and relax. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with cheeses, cold cuts, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts, and a lovely assortment of breads and rolls. There were also scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages.

Once a week, in season, a BBQ dinner is served at the grotto, and we were very pleased with our dinners there. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on two other nights, and always found the food to be excellent. You can order a fixed price three-course meal, or order a la carte.

The hotel is above the old town, away from the crowds and noise, but eadily accesible by the funicular at the train station. If you arrive in Lugano by train, you can walk to the hotel from Track 4. When you arrive at the front entrance, you'll find a long flight of steps up to the front door. After we lugged our suitcases all the way up, we found that there is a lift at ground level, in the parking garage. The hotel's location was both a plus and a minus for us. The quiet locastion was wonderful, a true respite from the crowds and noise of the town. But there were times when we wished we could just walk a short way to get a meal, a dessert or snack other than in the hotel or the train station.

We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights in September. We were very grateful that the air con was working as the day time temperatures were inthe high 20c. However due to the train noise, as other reviewers have mentioned, with the windows closed the room became very hot during the night. Allhough the air con was good it was a little noisy at night. We also found with our room in the annexe was close to the entrance that the noise from the cold drinks machine as rotated the drinks every 45 minuites or so was veryload ending with a clong as it stopped. The food could only be described as average. We were on a set menu basis, however on 1 night we didnt like or eat any of the food on offer and had a la carte, this also was under par. Other than the two dinners in the garden every dinner started with a salad buffet which after 7 nights became very boring.
The room itself was clean, but on first entering it seemed like on office. as the desk was away from the wall and a chair on each side. a very useful feature was the small fridge in the room, so we were able to keep bread butter etc for packed lunches fresh. I got the impression that some of the rooms in the annexe were used as staff accomodation, and they also seemed to congregate by the entrance when they had a break. I would have expected a hotel of that size to have a staff rest room.

Room Tip: Ask/book a room in the main hotel.
