“great swimming pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2010

We stayed in one of the modern private rooms and it was great. Room was above average for a hostel, very clean. Very large swimming pool to enjoy a sunny day in Lugano.

Hostel was good and nearby the train-station, however around the hostel was not really much things to do. It was clean, and quite. I definitely recommend this hostel for tourist!

When I travel I splurge on food and economize my hotel choices. As Swiss prices go this is a great deal. Some rooms have shared bathrooms, others private. Don't stay here if you want valet services, bell hops or a high level of service. If you need a pillow and comfortable bed with a helpful staff this place is great. Good location near train station, but about a 10-15 minute walk down the hill to the lake.

Hostel was good in great grounds overlooking station. Some rooms would be noisy on railway side, we had a side room, there are thick windows. Our room was clean and quiet. Lugano from the station to the town is very hilly and quite a walk, you can take a funicular. Internet is available in the common room. Breakfast is not included. Good hostel accommodation.

We stayed in the hostel. There are no elevators, so be prepared to carry your luggage one or two stairs up. The room looked like a military bunker. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear EVERY little thing in the rooms next door or from the train station, which is situated almost next to the hostel. We couldn't get a good night sleep. The mattresses are really bad, they've been worn out and the hostel needs to buy new ones, because both me and my partner had really bad backpains the next 2 days. The first day- and night experience were so bad for us, we decided to leave instantly. The staff at the reception did give us the money for the other nights back, so we only had to pay the night we actually slept there. That's was nice from them, since they're not obligated to do that. The location is not that good. To go to the city center you've to walk downhill for about 10 minutes. It's really steep, so you can imagine when going up it's really tiring. There's free parking space.

Stayed here for three nights in August. The location is relatively easy to find and is very convenient to the train station and furnicular. (Go out the front of the train station. Walk to the right through the parking lot for several hundred yards. Cross over the tracks at the railroad crossing and you'll see the Montarina up on the hill. Also, the furnicular leaves from the railway station, in the middle of the station.) The facilities are attractive in design and plantings. The "hotel" part had comfortable beds, functional clean bathrooms. The only downside is that the walls are thin. However, people were pretty good about trying to keep the noise to a minimum, so we slept well. Staff was helpful with tips on what to do. Breakfast, at 12 Francs, was abundant with a wide variety of options. You might also pick up take away food at the railway snack shop or the Coop Market in Old Town.

When I booked this hotel, I wasn't expecting luxury - after all, it was a hotel and a hostel. However, we were passing through that area and needed a night to stay, and all other decently reviewed hotels were just too expensive - so i decided to take a chance with this.
We took a private room with bathroom, and the 10 minute walk up the hill from the train station with our luggage wasn't very encouraging. A very small reception through a narrow passage, and I was expecting the worse already. However, the very friendly and helpful reception staff took away the doubts that I had, and walking to my room in the greenry, already made me certain that my choice was not wrong. On entering the room, I was surprised - nice, spacious room, biggest toilets in what I have seen in Europe so far, and a private balcony they overlook the greenry of the property and the lake Lugano beyond the road below.. an excellent view! This turned out to be the best hotel in our entire trip. We decided to go out to eat, and the reception staff suggested a good restaurant just below the hill. We walked down, looked around a bit, did some grocery shopping, but decided to eat in. We got our food packed and were back to our wonderful room within an hour of leaving it. We sat in the balcony, enojoying the food and the wonderful view, till late. A perfect, romantic getaway for a couple. The hotel also has a refrig and a self-service kitchen, if you are on a longer stay and want to explore cooking yourself.
At the time to go to bed, the LCD in the room provided local language channels, but enough for a quick view before sleep. The morning view was as amazing as the evening - I wish we had stayed longer.
I would recommend this as THE hotel to stay in, if you are planning to be in that area for a weekend or enroute. Will surely be my hotel of choice.
Directions: To reach the hostel, take the main exit from the railway station (escalators). Turn right, passing a snack shop and a 'kiosk'. You will come to a car park.Go parallel to the railway lines. Uphill to the right you will see the Hotel, it's a pink villa located in a palm tree park. You go ahead parallel to the tracks until the railway crossing, go on the other side and walk uphill the small steet under the wall until you come to the entrance of the property.
