“Nice view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2007

The hotel is placed in a nice little Lugano suburb up on a hill with a great view of the lake and the city center.
The rooms are relatively large, the bathrooms very nice and clean, and the furniture in the room tasteful. We had a good sized balcony wit room for two lying chairs, a table and two chairs.
The breakfast was excellent and the bar also nice with a view of Lugano. The indoor pool rather small though.
Service was good and very friendly.

Lovely hotel, if I go back to Lugano I would definately stay again. I booked a lake view but ended up with a balcony at the back and at the front of the hotel! The room was regularly visited for cleaning or even to leave little portions of fruit.

The pool is beautiful and the sauna very relaxing. The Cuban bar is a great place to watch the sun go down.

Yes its a bit away from the centre of Lugano and its up a hill but the view more than compensates for this.

If I had to try and think of something negative I'd say that I wish the restaurants had a bit more choice...but thats not really a big deal to me in a hotel.

I highly reccomend this hotel!

Beautiful views at a beautiful hotel

We stayed here for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. Lovely view lovely hotel and fantastic time!

The breakfast was really nice and filling. The roms were quiet and comfortable. Our room was really big with two balconys with lovely view over the lake

I loved the pool as it was so often empty so you had the whole thing to yourself and the steam rooms were nice and relaxing.

Overall the experience was lovely the worst thing was having to leave!

Stayed here for a week. Hotel was a bit of a walk with a steep ending from town and station. Staff helpfully advised about using back entrance to shorten uphill climb a bit.
Stayed in a lake view suite which was clean and spacious. Initially we were aware of the railway which runs below the hotel but the noise wasn't too intrusive.
There on half board basis and found the breakfast to be high quality with lots of choice for standard continental breakfast plus a cooked to order hot option of eggs any way you liked, bacon and fresh pancakes. An added plus was an optional glass of Prosecco daily! Meals at night were large and of high standard although there was only a choice of two for each course. The food was beautifully presented. On two nights there was a buffet meal which wasn't of the same standard as when we were served. It was however satisfying.
Staff were helpful both in the restuarant when occasionally they didn't have a menu translated to English and in reception.
I would definately recommend this hotel for a relaxing break.

We had no problems with the food, staying half-board for 10 days. We've certainly had worse food in Switzerland.
The suite was very good - and quiet. We live in a quiet street and would have noticed the railway. Our suite overlooked the railway, so perhaps the noise issue is one of how high your room is in the hotel. Certainly the higher the room, the more chance you have of seeing the whole lake, rather than just to gulf of Lugano.
Access to the hotel was good, though some might not like the steps up from the station and bus stop to the back door. The hotel courtesy bus was great.
The pool was small, but the other health facilities were good/very good.
Staff were courteous, though struggled to appreciate our urgency when SBB lost our fly-rail luggage for 24 hours. In the end it was the porter who found some of the luggage when SBB were still telling us it was lost.
The free internet in reception was also a nice idea.
We'd stay here again.

great views from this hotel, sits atop a hill overlooking the paradiso section of lugano. has a great bar, the havana, and a drink there at sunset is a must.

the breakfast buffet is superb, with everything you could possibly want and a chef that makes omelets to your request. facilities are also great--they even have a squash court on site, as well as a pool table, fitness center, etc.

location is right near the funicular that takes you to the top of the mountain, about 10,000 feet high, overlooking the whole of lago lugano. a bit of a walk back up the hill to the hotel, but good for walking off dinner.

We were booked into a lake facing junior suite on a half board basis for 10 days.
The suite was good - spacious (except for the bathroom which was adequate but a bit cramped), very clean and exactly as promised. The other hotel facilities like swimming pool, reception staff service and bar were also fine.
The hotel is in Paradiso which is about 20 minutes walk from the town centre and up hill a bit. Lakeside it has nice views across the town and lake. Like much of Lugano it suffers from regular noise from the main railway line from Italy (goods trains and passenger)that snakes around about two thirds of the town. It takes a little getting used to at night!
A bus runs very regularly to the road below the back door. (Make sure you ask reception how to use the back door or you will have a long uphill walk to the front of the hotel!)
There is plenty of parking and the hotel is convenient for the motorway.
Breakfast is OK - not top quality but plenty of choice including a nice cooked-in-front-of-you bacon/eggs/omelette/pancake feature. It is mainly self service so the lack of staff on duty was not too much of a problem for us most of the time.
UNFORTUNATELY when we were there the dinner service (half board)was appalling. The worst food we have ever had in Switzerland - unimaginative and very poor value for the price charged - served slowly by overstretched, harrassed and generally unfriendly staff. Also whenever a function was on the half board guests were either crammed into a corner of the dining room or into another room and the self service salad buffet bar starter dropped for a plate of pre-prepared salad because of lack of space. Everybody just looked miserable!
After two days our holiday company agreed to let us go bed and breakfast - WHAT A RELIEF! But others we spoke to were not so lucky. After that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves but never ate anything but breakfast in the hotel restaurant again.
SUMMARY - AN GOOD BED AND BREAKFAST CHOICE - BUT NOT RECOMMENDED FOR HALF BOARD.
