“Incredibly poor taste in a great setting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

The hotel is very well located and has great lake views from all the rooms. However, the positives really end there.

The lobby and hall ways alternate between wall to wall to carpets of floral design and shiny white gray tile that looks like it came from Home Depot. The rooms have fake wood grain tile of plastic (!!!) that I guess try to look like wood flooring, but it is so obviously fake so why bother.

The rest of the room is no better. Walls have some weird, grant looking covering that I have never seen before anywhere. And the designer (was there one?) went crazy and changed the patterns on almost every wall. The furniture is shiny white painted, and makes IKEA beds look sophisticated. Bedlinen no better.

Curtains are cheap and plastic and don't manage to darken the room.

Bathroom continues the hospital feel and has a shower curtain to complete the American inspired shabby cheap look and feel.

Only had breakfast, and it was pathetic, but where it was served was even worse.....brrr.

In essence the only people who can find things to like in this hotel are people who like the Motel 6 experience.

Granted, Lugano seems to be home to some of the worst decorated hotels, but this one still takes the prize of being unusually tacky.

Even if you have to be in Lugano, I think it is worth considering a 15 min trip to Como to spend the night....I certainly will on my next trip there.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else...

This a small (65 rooms) very well appointed hotel with superbly competent multilingual staff. Front rooms overlook Lake Lugano which really is a fantastic view. We did not book and got the last room - it was beautiful so I imagine that the other rooms are well appointed too. You can walk to everywhere in town from the hotel. Only downside is on the road side (the one with the fabulous view) if you want to leave the window open then you will hear traffic noise - not bad but audible - for most of the night. There is air conditioning so if you want to shut the window then you can turn on the air con. Breakfast was included but only OK for a hotel of this standard. If you have a car parking is an extra cost but on site and easy. Lugano is a small gem of a town on the lake and is worth a more than one day stay. This hotel may be good if you are on an extended trip and want to spend a little more than you may in other places.

Room Tip: If you want to leave the window open to sleep get a room on the side away from the road......you wil...

A hotel with style, right on the shore of Lake Lugano, within a few steps of the Paradiso pier of the Lake Lugano cruises.
The hotel is a Best Western franchise and my stay there was paid for by the BW reward program - nonetheless, I got a room with superb lake view. Room size is perfectly alright, with all expected amenities provided. The personnel is as friendly as it gets, highly professional and multilingual (mind, this is Switzerland!). The meal in the restaurant was some experience: table linnen and starch-folded napkins, superbly prepared food (also on the vegetarian side - chef was pre-informed about this wish) and a fine choice of wines. Altogether, a place where one could get away from it all for a few days. And do not forget to visit the Church of Santa Maria degli Angioli, some 500m towards the city centre!

Room Tip: streetside rooms offer best lake view - do not mind the odd Lamborghini passing in the night!

Really a room with a view and a fantastic one, facing the bay. The hotel is just in front of the lake. A few minutes, maybe 10, promenade to the historic and shopping center of the city. Boat station nearby. Rooms with air conditioning, balcony, free Wi-fi and besides free PC and printer in the foyer. Extravagant restaurant surrounded by palm trees, offering the best Italian cuisine you can get. Excellent staff.

One of the best hotels to stay if you want to enjoy the switzerland from your room also. The hotel is facing the lake lugano and gives you a excellent view if you get the romm facing the lake both in evening and morning. The rooms are par excellence and provides you with free Wi-fi and Lan access as well as with HDTV with international choice of generes. Breakfast is too good.

We had a junior suite with a lakeview, and we found it exactly how it is depicted on the hotels web page (no trickery or distorted perspectives). The room was large & comfortable, with a good large workable ensuite bathroom. Very clean and comfortable.

We had two balconies, each with a view of the lake.
However, between you and the lake is the major 4 lane main road that is "Riva Antonio Caccia", but beyond this was the tree lined walkway & the lake itself.
During the day it is a main road, so it is noisy with traffic, but as night falls, it becomes quiet, so that you can gaze accross at the lake. (All the hotels & all the main buildings in Lugano are on the same side of the street, so you cant get away from this issue).

Subsequently a restfull sleep is possible thanks to the double glazed windows, the reduced traffic, and the airconditioning, if you need it.

Breakfast was a buffet, supported by waiters, and was quite adequate.

The hotel also supplied free WiFi, which actually worked, but failing that it also supplied a free PC and printer in the foyer.

The staff where all very helpful & friendly, and English was spoken.

The train station at Lugano is at the top of the hill & the hotel is at Lakeside.
The walk down hill from the station to the hotel is possible, though it could take around 20 minutes. The reverse trip will require a major climb up the hill (or use of the funicular railway at around 2 euro a trip), so maybe a taxi would be a better bet if you have a lot of luggage bags.

Room Tip: Its all about the view, so splurge an get a room with a view

I went to Lugano for the weekend and stayed at the Best Western.

The weekend was flawless, excellent hotel staff support and the views from the hotel are stunning. All in front of the lake.

The hotel il about 800m from the center of Lugano.
