“Very cozy old hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

The hotel location is the best, near the waterfront, in the beginning of the pedestrian shopping street of the city, going straight to the center, a five minute walk. It is situated near the medieval church Chiesa degli Angioli with beautiful frescoes. The busy road that runs along the lake near the hotel did not disturbe us because it is not directly under the windows. Right under the windows – the small squire starting the pedestrian Nassa street.
Hotel International au Lac is absolutely recommend in terms of price / performance ratio for a stopover in Lugano. The hotel of the old school is the story of the early 20th century and even gets a UNESCO grant to retain its historic appearance and spirit.
Live interior looks much more beautiful than on the promotional photos, a lot of old paintings, sculptures, antiques some interesting little things that you want to look at and touch. There is a good old timed-time, pleasant, because for all that it does not look dilapidated or worn, as is often the case in older hotels.
Service is very friendly and attentive, the ladies at the front desk immediately provided with all possible tourist information - city maps, boat schedules, tips what to see, attractions booklets and explain every detail. We've even bought cable-car tickets to San-Salvador (a must to see in Lugano) on the reception without any exta - very convinient.
Room was old-fashioned, but very clean, comfortable and cozy, nice view of the lake from the balcony. The main impression of the hotel - do not laugh, extraordinary, just heavenly comfortable beds. Probably I did not sleep at best. I do not know what kind of sheets and mattresses, but the feeling is like sleeping in the arms of an angel (nobody told me how it is but I think it's very pleasant).I'll not hesitate to stay another time in this hotel to sleep ones more in that bed!
The hotel has convenient underground garage- not free - 20 francs a night, about 16 euros, but for Lugano it is inexpensive.
Breakfast is served in a beautiful room with a glass window in the ceiling. Coffee, well boiled, commissioned to bring all tastes: cappuccino, latte, espresso, etc. Breakfast is continental, but very good- delicious cheeses, fresh pastries, fruit salad and fruit, they serves natural scrambled eggs, some sausages, in-general, everything was normal.
The hotel is pets friendly , like many in Italy and Switzerland. The presence of outdoor pool is an additional plus to the hotel. Very nice clean cool pool on a quiet courtyard with a lovely old garden. Nobody was there when we went to swim . Statue of a girl with a pitcher pouring a trickle of water into the pool, flowers around, a dozen sunbeds for sunbathing if time and desire. Comfort and beauty!

Courtyard room quiet ,rather dark with air con. No fridge or kettle though. Bathroom excellent with bath tub, foot cleaner, hairdryer, soaps etc.

Hotel worth a look around. Nice pool, with some views of lake, bar really nice with classic look with balcony.

Walks to mont salvador easy along waterfront then furnicular.

Overall, pleasant experience with serene views of lake.

Welcoming at reception on arrival.Room comfortable and bathroom spotless. Decided to eat in house first night and whilst food was very good the wait staff were rather abrupt and seemed to carry out their duties with an air of disdain. Not sure what this was about, maybe a cultural thing. Still as a result decided to eat else where.Otherwise enjoyable stay.

hotel is ok located however the staff in rwstauran and especially the old guy in the bar are
either incredibly silly or maybe it is just that they are incredibly impolite. the rooms for 220.- are really not worth the price: small, old fashioned batheoom, no mini bar, but incredibly loud. i changed the room
because the first night sleep was impossible due to people in the street during the night discussion and talking without the hotek doing anything against. second night other side of hotel: there is a place the your ones go to during the night - of course they are lous when going there/ coming back.
in the batheoom toilet water and sink
water constantly runs - the staff did neither stop / repair it nor gave a discount rate. there must be better places in Lugano. there are better places somewhere else. i travel at least two/three day a week simce years. something like this never ever happened before.
mind this hotel!

This is the perfect location - on the lakefront road, central with easy access to buses.

This is an old style luxury hotel
Furniture is period furniture
Family run

The rooms could use a touch of upgrade

There is no mini bar or mini fridge in the room

Bernina Express + bus brought us to Lugano. This was the first hotel in our rail trip that was not obviously close to the train station but the walk was downhill and quite attractive, via the town centre.

Hotel welcome was best on our trip. With hindsight we should probably have planned more than an overnight here and seen more of the town/lake.

Room and breakfast were very good and we had a decent dinner too - the hotel in general has a nice old-world feel to it with staff who seem to enjoy making guests feel at ease.

Free internet workstation in the bar.

Room Tip: Lakeview rooms are attractive.

I stayed here after traveling all day from France. It was good value for the price in the area. After the initial shock of the way the doors open and the 1970's decor, this hotel was charming with a lovely breakfast and the bar area had a pretty view

Room Tip: This hotel is in great need of a renovation, but it is typically Italian style and it has an old wor...
