“My holidays were a dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

I was able to spent again a few days at Castagnola in the Barony Villa Le Pergole. I resided in apartment IVB. The journey was a dream! My apartment was very comfortable and I liked the friendly contact with Ms von Husen. She helps me if I had a need. Again the weather was very nice and the view to the lake truly wonderful. So I can only repeat: It was a dream!

We enjoyed a relaxing week in the gorgeous Villa - despite being close to high season the place was peaceful, when sleeping with open window absolutely nothing was to disturb the rest despite the fact that the location is close enough to walk to Lugano downtown and reach the lake in a brief stroll. The great views, antique furniture and original artworks are rounding off the loveable atmosphere.

We stayed in Apartment 1B for a week. The view is fantastic and the gardens are very nice.

The apartment was a little unusual. For example:
- The in-room safe was not bolted down. I could easily pick it up.
- The covered terrace with dining space was also the gardener's access to his tools. One morning I was wandering around the apartment underdressed, and looked up to see the gardener walking past two meters away.
- The kitchen has very little bench space which makes meal preparation difficult.
- The wifi was very unreliable. There was one spot in the apartment where I could usually get reception but the signal was always weak.
- The window in the bathroom opens to an internal wall with a mural painted on it.

We enjoyed the peace of the views and the gardens. We found it easy to commute to the city and to go for walks in the area.

As I and my councellor are not able to make any interpretation for the word "quirky" for the 5-stars Barony Villa Le Pergole it is necessary to give the following informations:
Castlelike residence contructed of the family of the noble President des Schweizer Nationalrates in the late 30th of the last century and lateron habitabled by a well known German Prince. In the 60th from the owner of a very big Supermarket-company and others completely renovated and largened with high investment and from me in 1985-1995 rebuilt and furtheron largened until today into 5-stars holiday-apartments of different sizes with new marble-floors and -bathrooms, doors, windows, high standard German kitchens, antique built-in furniture and so on. In the underground are existing walls from Roman time. Sacrifical round stone from pre-Christian time found on the ground and nowadays used as a garden-table. The park with over 600 years old olive-trees is situated between the private street and the antique Oliven-foot-path of Lugano-Castagnola. It is just a wonderful special place...with history.

Concerning the commends: S a f e : We had to put a new one, because the previous guest lost
the kee and we had no time to fix into the wall. But if the JPS's would have asked us, we would have fixed this also in the time of their stay. The kitchen is a high level and expensive
German one 2,4 x 2,9 m + 1 kitchen-bar 1,7 x 1,1 and calculated from a Swiss Architect on
the base of constructions-advise for a small 2-rooms-apartment for 2 adults + 1 child until 3 years on holidays. Covered terrace: That the gardener used the small door once in the weekly
stay of JPS's instead the other 2 big with electrical command was not allowed from me and a mistake of him. Windows in the bathroom with mirrors and integrated electric ventilation goes (as official construction-order) to an air-shaft. The electric automatic ventilation does not need
to open the windows, but if so done, there is an "outlook" instead against the wall to a nice linen-picture. W i f i : This was installed by a Luganeser-professionist and has full function as also verified by other satisfied guest, who were living in the same apartment without any negative commend for this and others. As also wellknown: A good o less good
connection is dictated by the smart-phone or laptop of the tourist.

My wife and I are still impressed from this nice and tastefully furnished at Le Baronie. The furnishings are high quality, original antic and at the same time with modern technology equipped, real Persian carpets, bath in white marble. We had an unforgettable atmosphere of purity and luxury. Not to forget the garden with rarest and costly plantation, absolutely heavenly. The unbelievable view of the luganer lake, the mountains juicy green, still around at august.
We thank with the best recommendations for this unforgotten stay.

Room Tip: From all Apartements you have a looking to seaside and Mountainsview!

For two weeks we stayed in Villa Pergole, we had an amazing view at the lake. Our appartment was very private, so we could have all the rest and relaxation we needed after a year of hard work. Christel is a kind, helpfull woman, she is doing a great job managing the appartments by herself. We had a great time at Villa Pergole.

Heralded as a "castle-like 5-star" location, this is an utter disappointment. The only good thing to say is that it is located in a quiet area with a good view over Lake Lugano. The place is untidy (we saw dog's excrements for 2 days), with weeds in many places, gardening items left around somewhere, and other items like cushions, children's' toys stuffed into some corners. The furniture, described as "stylish, classical, impressive", is a mix of some old and a few very and cheap items, placed somewhere without any sense for fit. Lights in the bathrooms of apartment 1A are only working with motion sensors. A barbecue which should have been available, was found nowhere. Even worse, you are or may be charged extra for lots of things: simply to park your car on the premises, for the telephone in the apartment even if you don't use it, for using a prepaid card with it, for removing your garbage bag if you don't do it properly, and for placing kitchen items back to their original place on the shelves.

These subjective negative comments are refuted on the basis of statements by many other
extremely satisfied guests. See guestbook of this castlelike estate and awards as well as the
official Swiss-stars-awarding.

The assertions from these tourist are following after my written complaint from 23.07.2012
because of damage to the S.-toilet due to improper operation resulting in non-availability for rent and rent loss for this apartment I A.

Sensor lighting with automatic ventilation is a newest technology and includes a direct operation. - We did not find out about "dog excrement for 2 days" in the 4.000 m2 parkgrounds
and it was also not admonished by them during their presence. - If so asked, we would have
accompanied also this family to the barbecue station with facility. - The payment for convenient
parking place in the immediate vicinity of the villas complainded about, whereas it is rated posi-
tively by other guests. - A slight fee for possible use of the telephone with a prepaid card ensues from the fee which Swisscom charges for this purpose. - The park is all over covered with exotic plants, for example there are flowering in springtime 134 different camellias and not "on many places weeds". - Replacement of kitchen utensils is a Swiss rule for the purpose of the quickiest possible repleshniment for the next guest in case of damage through the previous.

In addition:
The main wing of the house B was built by the noble family of the President of the Swiss
National Council in 1932/33 in the 30s; theoretically a historical estate, as also denominated
a street in the antique nucleo of Lugano-Castagnola with his name. In the late 50s acquired by the testator of a big German company and completely renovated and spaciously castlelike
enlarged until 1969. The estate was converted afterwards by me as holiday apartments with a
new building and continually renovated to this day with high level in terms of building complex,
garden and interior decoration.

The interior furnishing consists of:
German country-style solid wood kitchen with handmade French tiles + antique leaded glass
windows + crystal chandeliers. Bathrooms covered with Italian white marble or precious Italian
tiles. Marble flooring, precious paintings, oriental carpets and also furniture of the 17th / 18th
century and not Gelsenkirchner baroque. Swiss-Bico-beds with orthopaedic mattresses.
Antique wooden columns in the interior and granite in the outdoor area as well as aircoditioning in all rooms. See photographic documentation in the home page of the Barony:
Apartment I A and others.

The fact that this family does not classify such a facility should not lead to a definitive negative
rating in the Internet portal or to a proclamation as "Avoid this place - you'll be disappointed".
And see also written from same family in the guestbook of the Barony: "We spent relaxing and
beautiful days her ...." And furthermore there are different ratings from them in this portal in
confrontation with the portal of the company from which this family rented in Villa Le Pergole the apartment I A .
