“Wow, what a castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

We stopped in Bellinzona on our way back home after a long weekend in Lugano. Castelgrande is a must, you can feel history in that place. Great architecture and splendid views of Bellinzona and the other 2 castle. It was worth the stop.

“A must at Bellinzona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

We spent a day at Bellinzona and began visiting Castelgrande and the two other castles. We parked in Autosilos Piazza del Sole and there is a lift directly to the castle entrance. We just went around the castle (it's free) and it's very interesting; there's even an underground part.

“Beautiful views, skip the museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013 via mobile

Very neat castle, right in the middle of town - and even has an elevator built underneath so you don't have to walk all the way up from the street. You can walk all around the grounds, up into one of the towers, and on the battlements. Skip the museum, though - its so minimal it's not worth the CHF 5 admission fee.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Fortunately there is a lift, but otherwise you can climb the stairs to the top for good views. There is a museum and opportunities to walk the castle walls. It is well maintained and from this one you can see the other two castles.

“Impressive...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

There are three castles in Bellinzona and they are Castelgrande, Montebello and Sasso Corbaro. As a part of the city's fortifications, they
are called the finest examples of medieval architecture in Alpine Region.
They were built and further developed by the Dukes of Milan in 15th century. The castles, the Murata (defensive wall), and ramparts, are listed on the UNESCO Heritage List.
A must-see in Bellinzona.
