“Well worth the 400 yds. walk from the main street”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

The first time we chose this hotel was because it was the only one advertising tea/coffee making facilities in the room. It is SO much more than that! We have returned 4 times now. The restaurant is one of the finest in Wengen and the maitre d', Enzo, is becoming a legend. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the friendly staff. The decor and style of the hotel is quirky rather than typical Swiss Mountain and some of the rooms could do with redecorating but that does not detract from your enjoyment. The view down the valley from the balconies on the Jungfrau side are exceptional. Because it is well off the main street, it is quiet at night. Not suited to large parties wanting to party or family groups with lots of children. We go in winter for the skiing and being able to leave the boots and skis in the sister hotel in the centre of Wengen is a bonus.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the rooms with balconies on the Jungfrau side. The views are inspirational.

A very comfortable hotel with excellent food in the dining room. The staff are genuinely friendly, efficient and well motivated.
It is in a quiet location and attracts clientelle who appreciate this kind of hotel. Exeptionally, at Silvester, we had quite a party finishing with a conga line through the kitchen!
Although 10 mins walk from the station, you can leave your skis and boots at the centrally situated Silberhorn Hotel, and also have free use of their excellent Sauna and Wellness.
I've been going there for 10 years: by way of reccomendation, what more do you want?

Room Tip: The South Facing rooms have wonderful views.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Wengener Hotel and we rate the hotel highly. We stayed in a North facing room with balcony and this was certainly worth the £80.00pp upgrade. The views down the valley from the balcony are superb.

Room Tip: Fitness center & pool are in a sister hotel about half a mile away. The rooms were a little hot...

The Wengenerhof is a classic Swiss hotel with exeptionally good and friendly service. Not the place for you if you like minimalist, modern styling and impersonal efficiency. Although the rooms are traditional and some may say old fashioned, ours was very pretty and functional with everything we needed including fridge, tea making facilities, good quality hairdryer, plenty of hot water and good water pressure for the shower. The view from our lovely balcony must be one of the finest in Europe, nestling between the mountains of Wengen and Murren and overlooking Lauterbrunnen. We enjoyed excellent food prepared by the Italian chef including a breathtaking New Year's Eve buffet and a very fine New Year Gala Dinner. We were made to feel most welcome and would be more than happy to return.

For a skiing trip in the jungfrau region we have choosen this 4 star hotel. A very nice place to stay in a 5 minute walk from the train station and skiing lift. Staff was very helpfull and friendly, Hotel dinner was excellent also a daily vegitarian dish was available as main course and a salad bar. Breakfast buffet was great.
Our room was on the first floor and the size of it was perfect; there was enough room for a baby cot and sitting area. We travelled with a 2 year old.
Bring your own cutlery for the youngsters, silver tableware is only available in the dining room

We stayed here for a week in July 2012, and chose this hotel primarily for its position and wonderful views of the Lauterbrunen valley, which we enjoyed from our third floor balcony. The supplement for a larger, valley view room was quite high, but we felt it was worth it to be able to enjoy what must be one of the most beautiful views in Switzerland. The hotel manager is very "hands on" and takes a personal interest and obvious pride in all aspects of the running the establishment. The manager was for example always keeping an eye on things in the restaurant, and his close attention showed in the high level of service we experienced. Every member of staff we met was cheerful and helpful. Wine in the restaurant was reasonably priced we thought. Food was good and plentiful. The clientele were primarily British, many of whom seemed to have been returning here repeatedly for many years. Wengen itself is a lovely, peaceful village with no motor traffic, only electric vehicles (ring the hotel from the station to be picked up by their own little electric cart (an experience in itself!) or to have your luggage collected, to save pulling cases up the hill). This absence of cars and coaches makes Wengen a more pleasant place to stroll around than Grindelwald, but has a less remote feeling than Murren. There are two churches - wonderful view of the valley from near the Catholic church, and the English church was open for visitors when we passed by on a Friday morning. There are a selection of shops and cafes in the main street. The Swiss Made Shop and the Silberhorn Jewellers were our favourites, both of which had an interesting selection of items for sale and friendly staff. We will return, hopefully before too long!

Room Tip: Pay the supplement to get a valley view room.
