“Why is this hotel only 3 star? It's a great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

I have visited the Belvedere many times now. The main reason is that it is a very welcoming friendly hotel with very comfortable rooms and fantastic views of the mountains. The rooms have an old-fashioned feel but with modern fittings which is nice. As it's an old building the sound insulation between rooms isn't always too good, so inconsiderate noisy neighbours have been an issue on a few occasions. All the staff are brilliant, and couldn't have been more helpful. As I have recently visited with young children the staff have also been great with them, even helping them with learning some Swiss and German. Meals are a buffet selection (I think it's the only hotel in Wengen that offers this) which is also good for children, but the chefs are first class and the food is excellent. Also some unusual dishes were on offer (eg Zander cooked in ratatouille) which made for an interesting dining experience. We also had a free packed lunch from the hotel every day, which was a nice touch. The hotel is conveniently located for the town, rack railway and cable cars. If I have one adverse comment it's that there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. But overall I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet comfortable stay in this great resort. Wengen is a great base for hiking and mountain-gazing, and it's almost completely traffic free.

Room Tip: South facing rooms have views on the mountains. Get a room with a balcony.

Our buffet dinners always included a selection of salads and a "surprise" salad edition each night which quickly won me over. The surprise salad was always imaginitive, original and tasty. The regular buffet selections were also good but I loved the salads.

Staff were always cheery and had the ability to remember each guest's drink preferences at breakfast and dinner

Room Tip: Try a lower floor because there is only one lift and it is very slow with a large booking. You will...

We've been staying in the hotel for 4 days and the rooms facing the mountain are just amazing. The staff extremely friendly and helpful . Washrooms are clean. The rooms decorated in old style might need a little cosmetics. Food was good but a little diversification would make it even better. There is no fridge in the rooms and having one would have been really helpful. Overall it was a very nice stay and I would like to thank the hotel manager for all the information and help provided during our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms with mountain view would make it all.

The Hotel is old style but very comfortable, peaceful, with large buffet
style dining room, comfortable lounge, and out side terrace overlooking
the mountains. The staff are very friendly and we were collected from the
station with our luggage by the hotel porter. bedroom and bathroom very
clean and tidy. If you like old fashioned comfort then we would recommend it.Pleasant

Room Tip: Pleasant North facing bedroom with balcony

The hotel was excellent. The staff were friendly and warm, always willing to help or pass conversation. The hotel room and facilities were first rate. The views of snow capped mountains and across the Lauterbrunnen valley were unbelievable. Waking up to a dream world each morning was an experience. The hotel has charming interior spaces of romantic swiss design, the dining room, lounges, bar, with many touches to raise interest. A tour of the hotel is a delight in itself. My third visit.

Room Tip: Face south for the views

The staff and service at this hotel are wonderful. The rooms are incredibly spacious and the dinner buffet is fabulous. The hotel is frequented by an interesting and friendly assortment of guests...folks who enjoy walking, hiking, alpine flowers and bird watching. Excellent value for money and also great for families.

Room Tip: For an amazing view, ask for a room with a balcony facing the Jungfrau.
