“An Alpine Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

We just got back from staying seven days in the Hotel Baeren in Wengen Switzerland. It was a fantastic little family run hotel with a great pair of owners and a very pleasant and friendly staff.
We took the half board option which we felt was a very reasonable price. We were not disappointed, the food was fantastic. A different four course meal every night. One evening we did not want the entree and asked Therese, the owner, just to give us a bigger salad instead. Not a problem, when the salad arrived it was big enough to feed a family and extremely fresh. It also included a chicken breast . The morning buffet breakfast was also very good and had a bottomless pot of good coffee with it.
We stayed in one of the front rooms and had a nice balcony with a table and chairs to sit at and take in the beautiful view of the valley. The rooms have been remodeled in the last couple of years and are a good size and come with a private bathroom including a very good sized shower.
The hotel is a short 5 minute walk from the train station.
A job well done by all that work at this hotel. We hope to return one day.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room, the view is worth the small extra cost.

This place is a gem. The larger rooms with the mountain view and balcony are extremely comfortable. Try to stay away from the real tiny ones. We had to spend our last night in one due to lack availability when we booked.

The rooms have been recently renovated with large baloconies. They provide a coffee maker with tea and coffee.

Its down hill walk from town and a little steep back up to town. About a ten minute walk from the train station.

There is not much to do in town in the evening, but after an exhausting day sightseeing or hiking thats ok.

Take the meal package. Willy is a wonderfull chef and really knows how to prepare and present. And if you are dining out in town, you will pay much more.

The breakfast butfet is basic but has all you need.
They provide very good complimentary Wi Fi access.

Hotel Baeren offers excellent accommodation and great quality food. Food presentation was simply the best. Travelling through Europe, this hotel is simply outstanding. Well done to all at Baeren for making our stay so memorable. Nothing was too much trouble and owners and staff go the extra mile to ensure a great stay. Well done and our stay in May 13 was most enjoyable !

My wife and I are thought enjoying our stay in Wengen at this property. Very gracious owners - husband is the chef - rooms are simple but nice, clean and with delightful views (if you get balcony side and the weather cooperates). Food is adventuresome (thinking French influence) and excellent! For this area this property is a good value.

We had a relaxing family holiday in this very nice hotel. Best of al was the family friendly atmosphere and the restaurant. Extra plus was the posibility to have food for lactos intolerance. Lovely owner.

I have been putting off this review for 7 years….the reason? It’s taken us as a family 7 years to stay in every room type this wonderful family run hotel offers. We started out in one of the 3 bed rooms with our daughter. They are roomy and have a lovely little shower on-suit. The next was a double on the 1st floor; you get a balcony and start to get a feel for the area with great views. We then spent 3 years (one week per year skiing!!! We’re not that lucky) on the 2nd floor in one of the doubles. These rooms have all been upgraded (1st and 2nd floor) and are fantastic, very clean, modern and airy. They have up to date LED TVs, free Wi-Fi and tea/coffee making facilities and a well-built shower room/WC en-suit.
This year the “Penthouse”! Therese and Willy have converted the Hotels 3rd floor into a mini suit. The "Lobhorn" room has a very large bedroom with full length balcony, separate bath and shower room (the shower is in its own area), with a further separate WC. This was one of the best Hotel experiences I have had! You can sit in your bath with a glass of cold wine (from the well-stocked fridge on the 2nd floor) and just soak up the magnificent views of the Jungfrau Mountains through the full height windows. This kind of room should cost thousands!!!! I know it’s on the 3rd floor and you have to walk up the stairs, but plans are afoot to put in a lift, and it’s worth it!
Therese and Willy, you have created the best Hotel experience in Wengen and well done on getting your 3rd Star rating. Please see my review of the Baren’s restaurant, together it just gets better…
We are already booked in for next year…can’t wait…

Room Tip: The "Lobhorn" room - just do it!!!!

We stayed at Hotel Baeren as a first stop to our swiss vacation. It is a small, family-owned hotel, and although the rooms are small, it has everything you need, and more importantly, it is clean with a beautiful view. Breakfast is simple but complete, and we had dinner here two nights and were very happy with the food. The half board and full board options are a great value, and the food was more upscale than I expected.

A special word has to be said about the waitress, who waited on us late into the evening for dinner, as well as early in the morning for breakfast. She was extremely sweet and warm, and left a great impression on us. The location is great, just walking distance from the train station and very close to a large supermarket. We would definitely go back, and recommend anyone who is visiting Wengen to stay there.
