“Excellent staying option in Switzerland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

This is the best hotel to stay in Switzerland. Wengen is a correct location between Mount Jungfrau and Interlaken junction. Wengen is a very small and beautiful place, having really colourful and well decorated houses all over. Its a convenient place to plan a trip from here to Mount Jungfrau and Interlaken. Alpenrose is a wonderful place to stay at wengen. Excellent service by the staff, very friendly reception. Good food and they prepare food as per your order for the dinner. Lovely view of Snow Mountains from the room. The overall experience is the best. Would surely love to visit this place and hotel again

I have just finished my 8th stay in the Alpenrose, and it has never been nicer. I started staying here back in the 90s and fell in love with it then and have kept coming back. The hotel is quietly situated a short 5 mins from the train station. It has been around since the late 1800s and run by the same family that really cares about it's guests. The hotel is quintessentially Swiss, comfortable, warmth pervades the public spaces to your rooms. South facing rooms are worth the extra cost especially during the summer. During the ski season, a fire is always burning in the lovely downstairs bar area. The best part of staying here is the food. Half board should not be turned down. Breakfast buffet is wonderful with many types of Swiss breads to birchermuesli to all kinds of cereals and eggs. Dinner is a 5 course affair and is typically French cuisine at it's finest. The dinner alone would cost at least $50-75 in a nice French restaurant in the States. One night a week they have a dessert buffet which would knock your socks off featuring 10-15 desserts, all homemade. Free wifi is available throughout the hotel now including your room. 2 computers are available and are free. Complementary shuttle pickup and drop off to the rail station. I really can't say enough about the Alpenrose. Stay there and you wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Especially during the summer, it is worth the extra cost of a south facing room with balcony so you...

This was our second family visit to the Alpenrose; this time over the Christmas period. They have guests who have stayed with them for 45 years and the secret of their success is that every other guest is treated as though they have stayed there for the same length of time. You feel like a very welcome member of an extended family. All the staff are most courteous and helpful, from the owners through to the housekeeping staff. No request is too much trouble for them. The location in the village is excellent and it is worth paying the extra for a room on the front of the hotel, overlooking the mountains across to Murren. The food is outstanding and although it is more adult foccussed, the restaurant will always adapt things to children's tastes.

The summary of the reviewer 'A380ManchesterUK' of "3* hotel with 5* service" is perfect.

Our only concern is not the fault of the hotel. As a number of guests have been regular visitors, they tend to treat the hotel as an extension of their own homes and allow their children to run riot without respecting the requirements of other guests for a quiet and relaxing stay!

Room Tip: Room 304 is perfect.

Its been a pleasure to stay even for 1 night at the alpenrose in mid December. The staff were very friendly and the views are amazing. We had the dinner in the hotel and the food exceed our expectation.

The hotel was described to us as ‘a three star hotel with five star service’. This description couldn’t be more fitting.

To be fair the hotels 3* rating is only due to the lack of facilities that hotels need to get a 4* plus (pool, business lounge, gym etc).

Staff are eager to please and friendly. All spoke excellent English.

Evening meals are a five star affair. Starter, soup, visit to salad bar, main and dessert. Desserts on a Saturday night are buffet style with around 8 on offer. Each of the three nights we stayed, there were also 16 cheeses available as well (so really a six course meal).

Breakfast was also excellent, Just a couple of hot offerings but a filling choice of the usual round of cereals/breads/meats/cheese etc.

Tables are allocated for the duration of your stay, so there was never a feeling of being rushed out.

The Alpenrose was the only hotel/restaurant/bar that we visited in 10 days in Switzerland, that didn’t charge for table water. Can’t recall what we paid for a bottle of beer, but it certainly wasn’t at the more expensive end of what we paid in other places.

Free wi-fi in the hotel. Should you need access to a PC/printer, a room is allocated to these facilities. Simply obtain the key from reception. Again use of this was free.

Complimentary pick up/drop off from/to the station is available.

We made use of the Swiss fly/rail service to the airport on departure. Reception staff collected our bags before breakfast, and presented us with our boarding cards and documents on check out at 08.00AM, having taken the bags to the station and checked us in.

A recommended hotel for service and food in a picture postcard setting.

Room Tip: Probably worth paying the supplement to have a front room with a view. Rear rooms have no notable vi...

The Alpenrose is a charming and sweet hotel in one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Run by a friendly and helpful staff we felt warmly welcomed and truly at "home". The half board is absolutely the the thing to do as food is so expensive in Switzerland. The breakfasts were great, and we looked forward each evening to dinner, they were all fabulous, and included an appetizer, soup , salad , entree and dessert. Our room was charming, comfortable, clean and cozy, with the most astounding view !!! I did not want to leave this beautiful spot, and hope to return to Wengen, and the Alpenrose !!!

Room Tip: Do choose a south- facing room with balcony for the INCREDIBLE views, you will be so happy that you...

My Husband and I stayed here for three nights. It was by far the most amazing place we stayed in the two weeks we were in Europe. I have never experienced such friendly staff and amazing service, by every single employee.

The room we stayed in was clean and had sufficient storage and room for us to be comfortable. They have lots of different lounge areas to relax after dinner, as well as a little bar area.

They have free wi-fi and a computer to use if you needed one.

The food was amazing. We did the half board one night - it was absolutely delicious and well worth the money. Keep in mind Switzerland is an expensive place, so compared to the other restaurants in town the half board is quite inexpensive (I think it was 25 Euro a person). Breakfast was great, lots of selection (the best selection we had for a breakfast in all of Europe).

Wengen is a small tourist town in the mountains. We took the gondola up to the mountains one day and hiked back down (took about 6 hours to hike down). We rented mountain bikes one day and road to Interlaken (and took the train back up).

If we ever make it back to Switzerland, we will stay here again (I couldn’t imagine any other hotel being as amazing as this one)
