“Great holiday at a great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Thank you to the Management and staff at the Sunstar Hotel for a lovely holiday. The management and staff worked together as one team and were very helpful with travel ideas, costs and with just about anything. Nothing was to much trouble for them and combined with their smiles you just knew they were eager to assist. The restaurant Manager and staff were also very good and it was nice to be greeted every morning and evening with your name. ( nice touch guys).
Excellent choice of food. The Manager and his wife were always available to talk to and Oliver the manager made it his point of talking to gusts on a regular (without being intrusive ) basis to make sure they were happy with their stay and asking about their events of the day.

Room looking over the valley had great views, specious, clean, with a very comfortable bed and spare pillows if required.

Great pool area which we used on a regular basis. Pool temperature could have been a little warmer but you only noticed that when you stopped swimming. Clean towels always available , chaining room clean and tidy, hair dryers, steam room and sauna excellent.

I would highly recommend this hotel. Wengen is a great place to stay as very well located for travelling around the region. We will deffo stay at this hotel again.

Thank you to the Management and staff for a lovely stay and holiday. We will be back.xx

Room Tip: Valley view room was great

I had a lovely welcome from Oliver on my arrival which made me feel at home. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. As a vegetarian I always managed to find a suitable meal, although the vegetarian options could have done with some protein element. I had a lovely room with a balcony facing front of hotel overlooking the mini golf course and views of the mountains. Every day after a good trip out I enjoyed relaxing in the lovely swimming pool with even more views of mountains. A big thank you to all the staff at the Sunstar Hotel for looking after me and making my stay in Wengen truly memorable.

We used the Sunstar for a base for a 6 day walking holiday. It was chosen based upon the Tripadvisor recommendations and I have to say we were not disappointed. The introduction when we arrived by the manager was an excellent start to the holiday and gave us all the information we needed to get going in Wengen. The weather and walking tips provided each day and evening were a considerable help.

The rooms were comfortable, clean and always well made up each day. We had a balcony room looking over Lauterbrunnen and the view was magnificent. All in all the hotel offered everything we needed as walkers; nothing was too much and there were lots of nice little touches that made the stay very comfortable.

We'll definitely go back to Wengen and the Sunstar

One of the better hotels that ive stayed in in Switzerland Firstly the hotel staff are amazing and go out of their way to please you starting with Oliver the owner and including Robert in the diningroom. The hotel has an excellent location,in the main street next to shops and opposite the tourist info and a 3 minute walk from the station.Standard rooms are not very big,but comfortable enough ,clean, and well equipped with flat screen t v toiletries in the bathroom,a very comfortable bed and a free minibar....its always the little touches which make the difference. The meals are excellent,a good breakfast and a great salad buffet at dinner. The pool area is good with a great sauna and steambath. This is not a cheap hotel, but its definately worth the price

We stayed here 19th-26th June which was our 5th visit to the hotel. This time we were accompanied by our friends who were first time visitors.
Oliver gave us a superb welcome and made us feel very much at home. The food was always fantastic on our previous visits, and this time it was of the same very high quality and standard, and any special requirements could be catered for. We were very pleased to see that Raimund was still the hotel chef - and enjoyed visiting the kitchen for the "Aperetif". Compliments to your caring and courteous staff.
Again we enjoyed the valley view room, which is very nice, and the beds are very comfortable.
We love the spectacular scenery of the area, and will certainly return - most definitely to the Sunstar. Wishing you and your staff continued success Oliver & Katja - look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Room Tip: Worth every GBP for the "package"

We have just returned from a most wonderful trip to Switzerland. We stayed the last week in June and we had the most wonderful time. The hotel is superb and we cannot recommend it enough. We arrived late on the Friday and were quite tired, we had just missed dinner but we were offered the option of having something prepared for us to have in the dinning room or a cold plate in our room. We chose the latter and it was very tasty, a good sign of things to come!! The food was excellent, with good choices at breakfast and dinner, the team were most accommodating and on a couple of occasions when we did take an early breakfast, if there was something that we required and was not out yet, all we had to do was ask, yes there are several groups that stay, but it really isn't an issue. Dinner was marvellous with a superb starter salad buffet and a good choice of main courses, the desserts were fine also.
The pool area is very pleasant, yes the pool is a little cold, but not that bad. We had a lovely room which was very clean and comfortable. The mini bar is a welcome bonus and it was lovely coming in from the day sitting and having a drink on the balcony and reflecting on our day. Wengen is a special place, probably a little quiet for some, but the location is so handy for good walks, good scenery and superb rail and cable car links.
Oliver, Katja and all of the staff work hard to make your stay all that you want it to be, they were always pleasant, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Oliver was present throughout our stay and always wanted to know if everything was okay. He seems to go that "extra mile". On the evening of our departure he wished us a safe journey and wanted to know if all had been fine and if there was anything that could have been done to make our stay better, we really couldn't think of anything!!

Room Tip: A valley view is well worth the upgrade.

For $300 a night at Sunstar Wengen, on our recent trip (June 2013), we had a very poor experience. We were with friends for 2 nights and highly regret booking with this hotel. The carpet (in need of replacement) and bathroom were back in the 1980s style. Down pillows were old; could smell years of its usage. We slept in cold room because the heater did not work efficiently. The pool was huge but cold, sauna was not working, the steam room was not steaming hot, & no jacuzzi in the hotel. Complaining to manager/staff only falls on deaf ears. We got rain for 3 days, therefore, use of the pool area could have given us something to do. Hotel staff were friendly at check-in but were not helpful in finding remedy to our inconvenience. The hotel transporter/bellman was very accommodating, however.
Breakfast at 7:00 really starts at 7:30 because they serve only the warm quality food after large Japanese tourists leave the eating area. Kitchen manager stood at the sausage line yelling at customers; very uncomfortable scene and dining experience.
We will definitely avoid this hotel upon our return to Wengen next year.
Overall, Wengen is majestic and worth seeing again and again.

Room Tip: 4th floor rooms definitely offers majestic views both on south and west sides.
