“Perfect place to enjoy the splendor of Bernese Oberland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2010

We spent 4 nights at Regina. The location is perfect, at the top of the hill with an unobstructed view of the Jungfrou mountain peaks. The air here is incredible and the rooms have netted drape over the patio doors to allow you to take advantage the air, the birds and the ever changing mountain peaks.

The service is classic, with the owner, Mr Myer, on hand to give you written instructions on the best hikes and other advice. The restaurants are very good, room service is perfect and if you get a chance to get a suite, splurge. They have large wooden decks with lounge chairs and tables. After hiking, this is the perfect place to relax

2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2010

We arrived at the hotel and the welcome was average.
Since we are a familiy of 6 we booked the apartment, which on the first impression was great: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen and dining room with a little laundry room.
Soon we discovered: there was hardly any warm water pressure in the kitchen and one bathroom, all the wallpaper was coming off, the apartment was lacking of several kitchen utensils, and the television (year 19... !) did not have a functioning remote control. All in all the apartment needed a good 100% refurbishing.
Since it is a 4 stars hotel we decided to check the dinner, but first we had some drinks and sodas at the bar. The children loved the bar. However, the dinner was another sad story. We arrived first. Although a reservation had been made once we arrived the waiter told us that no table was available. Eventually it did. We ordered the children menu and the daily menu for us. After 40 minutes of ordering just water and bread had arrived. So we decided to leave. While leaving we tried to explain to the owner's wife the disappointment. She did not show any understanding, not only but blaimed us for the expection of a fast service. Last but not least she did not even know that we were guests at the hotel.

Stayed at the Hotel Regina, 2 adults and a 13-year old, for 2 nights in August. Had a beautiful room with a huge balcony and patio facing the Jungfrau. The room was very comfortable and clean. Any requested room service or housekeeping service was very quick. Nice dining room with a good menu. Very pleasant bar and lounge. Hotel staff was very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful.

Mice in the room, no flannels provided, only liquid soap which was an all-in-one "Soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash", and the top shelf inside the wardrobe clearly hasn't been dusted in a couple of years.

We are regular visitors to Wengen, first time at this hotel, would never go back. Yes, the food is good, and the service is good, but I would stay somewhere else next time, and just eat here for a good meal. Just think, mice in the room!!!!

The Regina was the perfect spot for a weekend stay in the mountains of Switzerland. A grande dame of yesteryear its essential character shines through a current state of shabby elegance and tired surfaces. It is lovingly cared for and is comfortable, clean and in good working order. The location is great and just far enough away from the town center. The views are unparalleled. The Staff is superb and the owner was always available to offer travel and activity advice.. If the property did not need some updating it would have been a 5 star experience.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2009

In August 2007, we celebrated at the Regina a very important wedding anniversary, and were so impressed that we returned in September 2008. It is la grande dame of the hotels in Wengen, with arguably the best view of the impressive Jungfrau-massif and the Staubbach Valley south of Lauterbrunnen. Built in the fin-de-siècle style, it exudes charme and atmosphere, with geranium-flower boxes below every window on the south side. It is competently owned and operated by the Meyer family. Its staff is experienced, friendly and courteous.

Dinners at the elegant Chez Meyers are excellent. The wine list is impressive, and includes a carefully-chosen assortment of Swiss wines. Breakfast is buffet-style, with egg dishes prepared individually. The bread is very tasty and healthy. So are jams and marmalades. The only surprise is that in the country that created “Bircher Müsli” it is missing. Instead, raw oats are available. In comparison with Germany, Austria and the Alsace, cold-meat offerings are somewhat limited. However, nothing is perfect, not even in Switzerland, but, in the grand scheme of things, it does not detract from the splendid experience of the Regina.

Wengen has no private automobiles, a real bonus, especially for North Americans, for whom this is virtually unimaginable; however, it is an important element of Wengen’s atmosphere. It is simply wonderful to be lying in bed with the windows open and nary a noise outside.
