“Elegant service”

The hotel was built a hundred years ago and you can only imagine what it must have been like to visit the hotel while eating breakfast or dinner in this beautiful room

“Top Spot in Wengen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We recently spent a couple of nights in Wengen (Hotel Caprice which was an excellent choice for sleeping) and after the half board at the Caprice (which was disappointing), we wanted to try something different so we went to Jack's Brasserie. Jack's is directly across from the Caprice and uphill so it is an easy journey across the cog railway tracks.
The impressions of the dining rooms for Jack's compared to the Caprice are quite dramatic. The view is good for the Caprice (though who gets to sit near the window at dinner seems to be based on a complex algorithm I could not discern-I suspect it is based on how long you stay or how much your room cost) but the restaurant at Jack's is much grander and more impressive. So is the food. The level of staffing is also much higher and the owner makes the effort to stop at each table at least twice if not three times during the meal. This makes for an "olde" world kind of experience when family run businesses were the norm rather than the exception.
We enjoyed the food and, as I have said in other reviews, Switzerland is viewed as expensive but I have never left the table hungry after any meal at a top quality place in this country. Portions are large to very large and that comment is from healthy eaters who spent the entire day on the ski hill. Service was attentive both from the ordering, serving, clearing and drinks perspective. The place was bustling with families, couples and groups, which made for interesting people-watching. In contrast, the Caprice was very quiet even as the dining room filled. The food at the Caprice was also a bit more bland and not as flavourful. In my mind, the Caprice was an excellent hotel with nice food at breakfast, but Jack's is the far superior place for dinner.

We were on half board staying at hotel, food was good, and if anyone didn't fancy something they were very accommodating to make sure you got something you liked.

“Dinner with a View!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

My wife, son, and I had dinner here in late May 2012. The cuisine does have traditional Swiss dishes, but is more continental than most other places. The retaurant's setting includes large picture windows that overlook the Wengen plateau and the magnificent Lauterbrunnen Valley. The food and the service were excellent and the price was reasonable for a fine-dining establishment. Both of the owners (the Myers) chatted with us and ensured that everything was to our satisfaction. They even gave us a recommendation for a restaurant in Paris, our next destination; and therein lies another tale ....

“Lovely”

Lovely food, classy dining and very nice staff! The soup is very nice, try and sit away from the windows because it can get chilly!
