The hotel is very nice but what makes it stand out is the staff. They are very helpful, warm people who go out of the way to make your stay comfortable. Daniel is very knowledgeable about the area and provides valuable advice on getting the best out of your stay. The food is great - we dined there a couple of nights - and even though we were vegetarians, they came up with delicious options for us. Even though 25 CHF per person may sound high for a dinner, it was quite a good value given that it included a salad, soup, main course and desert. For comparison, we ended up spending 15-20 CHF per person on lunches where we just ate a pasta. Breakfast is quite simple, but the fresh jams are delicious and they even sell them!
Wengen is quite small so this hotel is pretty much walking distance from most places such as the train station, Coop and other restaurants. However they do sell some soft drinks, juices and snacks in the hotel also if you are too tired to go out. Contrary to what I'd read on some reviews, the hotel does have toiletries but would recommend carrying your own shampoo.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the station, all downhill. You need to cross the road at the station and walk towards the Coop. The hotel is downhill from the Coop through the tunnel/ bridge.
We stayed there for 4 nights - two in the family room and two in the double room with the balcony. While the room with the balcony had a great view, it was much smaller than the family room. We preferred the family room because of its size and in fact it was a bit cheaper than the double room. Given that you would be out hiking or enjoying the view most of the time, we felt the view in the room was not really required.
