“I'll be back again!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

You know many times there are so many pictures of a destination (eg. Eiffel Tower in Paris) that you are almost disappointed when you see the real thing, because the pictures are so well taken and sometimes even look better than the real thing.

Well.... this is not one of those times!!!

If you never been to Mannlichen, Kleine Scheidegg, Grindlewald, the Alps, etc... then whatever picture you've seen will not do them any justice.

As you gravel treading your way to Kleine Scheidegg from Mannlichen (which is the route I highly recommend, b/c you'll be facing Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau during the entire hike), you will be drunk on untamed wild flowers, warm sunlight, mountain fresh air and cowbells' soothing echos.

Remember to pack some food for the hike as you might want to re-charge yourself during the walk. It takes about 90 minutes to hike (on a slow pace) from Mannlichen to KS, and it was one of the best (if not the best) and fastest 90 minutes I've ever spent in my life.

“Scenic hiking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012 via mobile

We took the Mannlichen lift from Wengen and hiked to KS. Very beautiful hike with views of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau right in front of you. Cows were grazing all around and the meditative sound of cowbells was very relaxing. Pack a lunch and enjoy. You can take the train from KS back down to Wengen or hike a steep descent. If you are continuing upward, KS is where you pick up the train to Jungfraujoch.

“Gateway to the top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I have been to Kleine Scheidegg on several occassions and would definitely go back again. The ruggedness is beautiful with so many different walking routes you are spoilt for choice. Most visitors come here to take the train to the Jungfraujoch but it is a great place in it's own right. The views of the Eiger are second to none. It's a must.

“Jungfrau and hiking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

Just came back from Switzerland last week (July 13 to July 20). We were very lucky as the weather was very good when we at Jungfraujoch. Absolutely clear blue sky. Amazing view.
Like to share my experiences. By the way, we were staying at Wengen
We wanted to do both Jungfrau and hiking between Kleine Scheidegg/Mannlichen on the same day. So, we followed one of the advise in this forum, ie, go up to Jungrau first thing in the morning and then come down to KS later and hike from KS to Mannlichen and then take a cable car from Mannlichen to Wengen.

a) last cable car from Mannlichen to Wengen is 5.30pm (certain months is 5pm). So, you must leave the peak or take the 3pm train down to KS. Walk from KS to Mannlichen is about 1 to 2 hrs depending on how fast you walk and how often you stop. So, its going to be real rush and hence you will not enjoy the hike.

b) hiking from KS to Mannlichen - more uphill than downhill and your back is facing the mountans most of the time. Hence a great disadvantage. You would want to have the mountain in full view in front of you.
My suggestion: If possible, break up the two itineraries into two days if possible. Spend more time in the peak and hike from Mannlichen to KS instead.

if you prefer to hike from Mannlichen to KS in the morning and then take the train from KS up to the peak later,
a) do not buy the train ticket first until you are at KS and confirm if weather is good.
b) hope you don't tire out from the hike. The peak is 11,300+ and air is a bit thin.
