We have just returned from our second and equally enjoyable trip to the De La Paix. We stayed there 3 years ago and couldn't wait to go back there!
This time my Mother did not come with us, so we had just one room this time which we shared with our 11 yr old son. Due to the fact that we asked for an extra bed, space was somewhat limited, but it was fine. The balcony with it's table and chairs more than made up for it - and as a double room it would have been a very good size. The beds were very comfortable and the white bed linen very clean. The bathroom had a toilet, basin, small bath and a shower over the bath. Again, like everywhere, it was very clean.
We were warmly greeted by the daughter Charlotte who speaks excellent English (her Mother Gilliian IS English). I simply cannot understand a certain comment on T.A. which suggested the welcome was "cold". We were offered a courtesy drink on arrival in the charming lounge - just what we needed after a long drive. ALL the staff were polite and helpful.
We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast was a good selection of several kinds of delicious breads, croissants, yogurt, fruit juice, fresh fruit, cheeses and meats, a wonderful fruity muselli, toast, scrambled eggs (always warm). It was accompanied by a choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
Dinner was a set meal - 4 courses. But as with the last time that we stayed there, if there was something on the menu that you didn't like (e.g. fish) they would offer you something else (such as chicken). The menu was displayed in the morning for that coming evening so we asked in the morning if we could have an alternative on the one occasion.
The food at dinner was always beautifully cooked and nice and hot. We were never rushed nor had to wait too long to be served.
Th hotel has a bar (hot or cold drinks) and any drinks purchased throughout the stay were added to a bill which you paid at the end of the stay, We felt that the prices charged for beverages were reasonably priced.
Also on T.A. there is a comment about the hotel being a long way from Interlaken West?? This is simply not the case. It is literally a couple of streets away - about 5 mins of gentle walking - at the most. "Paix" means PEACE and that is what the hotel offers. It is in a nice quiet street with views towards the Harder Kulm.
Some rather rude comments suggested that the hotel was "full of old people"! It is certainly not full of noisy youngsters, but there was a varied range of ages staying there, and it is a perfectly nice hotel to take well behaved children. The hotel is very welcoming and it is nice that it is a family run place. It is full of many old clocks which add to the charm.
If we return to Interlaken, we will make no hesitation in booking in at the De La Paix.
