“Nice hotel, good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

My husband and I stayed in Hotel Oberland as part of a tour package. Of all the hotels we've stayed in during the tour, I would say that this is the best one.

The hotel had a very modern-looking interior. I especially loved their lounge - they had large sofas and a nice fireplace.

We stayed in the guesthouse (guestroom?) building, which is just a stone's throw across the main hotel building. I am not aware of the differences between the rooms in the main building and the guesthouse, so my review might not be applicable to the main rooms.

Room:
- Bed is actually 2 single beds put side-by-side to pass off as a double bed. But note that this is a common practice in hotels around Europe.
- Television, study table.
- Full length mirror, closet.
- Good room size, quite spacious for me and my husband and our luggage, with much room to spare.
- There's a television in the room, but we didn't really use it as we were out the whole time.

Bathroom:
- Shower over a regular-sized tub. However, the way the shower head was positioned was quite odd, as it wasn't located on the far end of the tub. You'll need to determine the optimal angle to set the showerhead and not spray water all over the floor when you turn it on.
- Hot water didn't take forever to heat up.
- Toiletries are provided: body wash and shampoo in a dispenser.
- Hair dryer.
- Towels and bath mat are provided.
- There is no drain outside the tub, so flooding can occur if you don't set the showerhead angle correctly. They charge a fee of 80 CHF (about US$100) if the area gets flooded.

Facilities:
- Small souvenir shop on the ground floor right beside the reception. They're open in the morning and the evening. This is because during the day, most of the guests are out doing activities and only come back by around 17:00.
- Wifi: there are 2 computers beside the smoking area, but I wasn't sure it was free. If you need to use the internet using your own device, you will have to buy access vouchers. You can buy them via your browser, it accepts major credit cards. I forgot how much the internet costs, but I can tell you that it is expensive (but fast)! It is Switzerland, after all.
- There is a vendo machine on the ground floor that has food in case you need a snack.
- Breakfast format is buffet, which was included in our accommodation. The food is actually good, and they serve white rice!

Accessibility:
- The hotel is in a very good location, there are a number of restaurants around the area, and lots of shops (watch shops, pharmacy, chocolate shops, souvenir shops).
- Our itinerary for this visit was mostly for activities far from the hotel - going to Interlaken for skiing, and visiting Jungfraujoch. But for the most part, transportation was provided.

I would say that the service is quite good, the receptionist and staff are really helpful and polite.

Overall, this a good hotel to stay in, my husband and I have no complaints. However, this seems to be the hotel of choice by tour groups, so if you are late for your breakfast call, expect to be in a long queue and it gets really crowded in the buffet area.

Stayed here for 2 nights on a package tour.

The hotel is situated along the picture-perfect streets of interlaken. We are in between the east and west station and food is not a problem. Many food stalls around and we had some lovely pizza nearby.

Rooms are standard but no wifi provided both in the room and lobby. That is one big problem. Breakfast was above average :)

Basic hotel with basic stuffs. I dont understand why all Swiss bathrooms have no drainage system. Keeping the bathroom dry is good but how to they wash it without water flowing into the bedroom?

decent breakfast and lovely location. No free wifi.

Room Tip: take a higher floor

I pretty much agree with most of the other reviews: the hotel is centrally located and easy to reach if you travel by train. The outside looks quite appealing and the reception and some parts of the hotel are very modern. The standard rooms are functional but lack some athomsphere. The breakfast is very untypical for a Swiss hotel, if you dig asian and engish food you'll be able to find something at the breakfast buffet if not... well.
There will be always a Asian travel group arriving by bus late in the evening

City Hotel Oberland’s location is very convenient for tourist and shoppers. It is centrally located just few minutes walking distance to shops and luxury boutiques, bars, restaurants, banks, train station and Interlaken casino.Despite its prime location, the hotel is safe and quiet.

Rooms and toilet are clean and new. I am amazed by the design of the room where I stayed- its like an attic with loft.

Nice view from the hotel lobby, hotel is located at the foot of the mountains.

Good buffet breakfast (their sausages and soup are good) but servers are not very helpful.

No free wifi is provided and internet connection is very expensive.

They have small elevator just enough to fit 2 people with 2 big luggage. This cause traffic and delay especially if people arrive in flock. I find the toilet strange - why would they construct it without drainage in the floor? And they would charge you if you flood the floor.

Overall, hotel is okay for an overnight stay but they could still improve to wow their guests.

This hotel is a solid average, not great but not terrible. The staff spoke English and were helpful most of the time, though they often had a bad attitude, like they were annoyed to have to help you. It is located in a good location, very close to the Interlaken West train station and only a 10-15 min walk to the Interlaken Ost station. The lobby and reception look super modern and nice, but the room was not up to the same level. One of the lights only worked intermittently which gave the room a sort of dark and dank feel at times. The room got quite hot and stuffy, even with the thermostat turned all the way down, and it was the middle of December so outside temps were in the 30s during the day and 20s at night. It would seem this hotel caters to Asian tourists. When we arrived there was a group of about 35 Asian tourists in the reception area checking in and at breakfast we saw a different group each day. Every evening a bus would pull up and offload a couple dozen Asian tourists, this happened every day we were there so it was often quite loud around the hotel.

Pros:
The location is great, right in the middle of the action.
Staff was helpful when needed and spoke English.
Restaurant staff was very nice and helpful.
Free parking.

Cons:
The rooms are kind of drab and run down. At least the one we stayed in.
Not much to do in the winter time, and most of the entertainment information was still advertising summer activities.
