My partner and I spent 2 nights over the Easter Weekend in this lovely hotel and had a wonderful time. The hotel staff provided the best service we've ever seen in any hotel - very welcoming, attentive, friendly and always relaxed. From the first until the last second of our stay we were always given the feeling that we were special guests and that no matter what we wanted, they would do everything in their power to make us happy.
We were given a very nice and spacious room with a small balcony and amazing view towards the Jungfrau. The furniture looked quite new, as well as the beautiful parquet flooring. The bathroom was clean and functional, though very dated and definitively needed renovation!
The relaxation area offered tennis courts, a spacious and modern fitness center, large indoor pool and a small outdoor saltwater pool with jacuzzi. There was a turkish steam bath in the common swimming pool area, and there was a small sauna area, but separated for men/women which we found a shame and therefore did not use. We did not book any of the private spa treatments, but I think I would do so next time as it looked very nice and professional.
The concierge desk, again super service: we originally planned to go up to Jungfrau Joch, but since the weather was a bit unstable, the concierge recommended we should go up to the Schilthorn (James Bond filming location) instead which is what we did and were very happy with that choice, as there was a big cloud at Jungfrau Joch all day long whilst we enjoyed sun and breathtaking views on the Schilthorn.
Food: let me start with breakfast - big buffet with good choice of local products, such as local cheese, ham etc. and everything else you expect on a 5 star breakfast buffet. Perfect according to my taste.
On Sunday afternoon we decided to go for the afternoon tea and it turned out to be pastry heaven. Delicious homemade treats from sweet to hearty and anything in between.
First night we dined at the Jungfrau Brasserie which is situated in a beautiful big hall from the Belle Epoque era. Food was ok, but nothing special. The big disappointment was that they had obviously run out of a special stew dish, but did not tell us so when I ordered it. As a consequence we waited for for over one hour between starters and main course, as they had to prepare it from scratch - when we finally got it the stew was not as tender and tasty as you expect it as it just did not have enough time to cook. The service should have informed us that this dish is out and should have recommended an alternative - this was the only time during our stay when the service failed, but it failed big time!
Second night we had the Easter menu at the gourmet restaurant 'La Terrasse'. It comprised of a starter buffet and a dessert buffet (both were very respecable) and a served main course in between. The main course was a disappointment - uninspired and dull.
Both nights we went to the hotel bar after dinner and had a great time, there was an excellent jazz trio playing and it was a super atmosphere. Apparently they only do the live music at special occasions, e.g. Easter weekend, so I could imagine that this hotel bar is not always such an attractive place to have a digestif.
All in all, we had a fantastic time at the Victoria Jungfrau, and we will certainly be going there again. However, the culinary experience at their restaurants was way below our expectations and we could not understand why they did not put more passion and energy into this area, as they were delivering perfection in all other areas.
