My husband and I really enjoy good food and a trip can be made or broken based on this fact. On our most recent trip, we started in Lake Como, Italy and every meal we had was fantastic. From the simple to the more complex it was all good. Our second stop was Interlaken and I had been warned that the food options were not as good. (Nobody really comes back from a trip to Switzerland and says the food was amazing!) Our first night in Interlaken we had a less than phenomenal meal at a place recommended by the concierge at our hotel. We were a little concerned that was the best they had to offer. We started asking the locals where they eat. We were sent to Laterne.
You sort of feel like you are eating a home cooked meal in someones living room. The waitress is very attentive but doesn't hover over you. They have a large menu which normally makes me nervous about the food quality but we went here two of our four nights and everything we got was top notch. They have traditional swiss foods. The meals are large and filling. They have a house wine that is pretty good and very reasonable. The other nice thing about this restaurant is they don't charge you for tap water. I know that may sound silly but my husband and I were getting a little tired of paying $3 a glass for tap water. In other words, we didn't feel like we were getting ripped off. We had a great meal at a reasonable price and left full. Most of the people who go here are locals. I feel like this is worth the walk and your time to check it out.
