“Excellent in every way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We stayed as a family of 4 in the side house, House Spinell. It was extremely cozy. Very, very clean. The view of the Eiger is wonderful. And the hotel is situated right in the heart of town, but easily accessible to wilderness. We took the longest gondola up to the top of the mountain, and walked right home to Hotel Tschuggen (of course, it took us 6 hours!!). But the location was just perfect. Shops and restaurants across the street for convenience, and buses that can take you to wonderful hiking spots.
The owners and staff are so kind and helpful. You really felt welcomed there, like you were staying with family! The breakfast was so abundant, it carried us all day until dinner! We couldn't be happier with our stay at Hotel Tschuggen! We will be back!

Room Tip: for a family, ask for House Spinell. It is your own little home away from home!

We stayed here for 3 nights and could not fault this place. We were made to feel very welcome when booking in and the owners were very helpful with information about the area. Our room (5) had amazing views of the Eiger from our balcony. We enjoyed sitting out looking at the peaceful scenery. The breakfast was a lovely selection of cereal and basket of fresh bread every day. It is perfectly located right in the heart of the village and right opposite the Eiger hotel which had reasonably priced meals which is unusual for Switzerland. It is close to all the cable cars to go for walks. Definitely pay for the train right up to the Jungfrau glacier as the views are amazing! Well worth the £120 ticket! We were lucky enough to stay when there was a local festival on at night and we enjoyed the entertainment.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a room with a balcony out the back of the hotel overlooking the views.

Had the 3rd floor apartment, plenty of space for a family of 5. The views from the balcony were out of this world. The owners were so friendly, helpful and welcoming can't praise them enough. Breakfast was wonderful - tasty and plenty of it! Only downside was we had to leave!!!

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the Eiger, the street side ones are a bit noisy.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

We stayed here for a couple of nights in a unit on the second level, going up a flight of exterior steps. For a group of 4, this was an ideal apartment. There was a master bedroom plus a smaller one with a couple of bunk beds. Outside the front door was a dedicated balcony (no other apartments). A small table and 4 chairs plus longer hours in July meant a lot of time spent outside on this table over meals and drinks. Sitting here, great views of Eiger can be enjoyed. Breakfast was excellent. Rooms were thoroughly clean and comfortable.

Great place in Grindelwald. Stayed for 4 nights in July in third floor 2 room apt
The Good:
-great balconies overlooking Eiger, and quiet side of street (Note our room also had windows in 2nd room on street side)
-very friendly and helpful owners (can't say enough)
-reasonable breakfast included and prepared every day
-simple rooms, but clean and comfortable
-good price for area (great price realy especially when compared against upscale area hotels)
-located dead city of main street in town (easy walking to everything)
The Bad:
-can't really think anything. Maybe not the place for you if you prefer traditional hotel types (with hallway ice makers and large fancy lobbys).
This is a great small boutique place.

We spent two nights in this small hotel in Grindelwald. The location was near perfect, shops and restaurants next door and the station for the (in-town free) bus just a minute away.
Although it was raining most of the time we enjoyed the cosy environment. The breakfast was delicious and the hosts were so positive and friendly... This was home away from home.
