“Perfect location, stunning views, warm hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2010

We stayed two nights here and felt very warmly received.....the views from our balcony were unbelievable, right under the Eiger.....the room was clean and had all we needed....the location is excellent because it is removed a bit from the noisy part of town....Gabriela and Gery made our stay easy by being able to purchase tickets for us right at the hotel, giving us a ride to the station, patiently answering our questions..just a great stay in a stunning environment...hard to believe it is all real and not a postcard!

Our family of 4 young adults and parents had a wonderful time here. The owners/hosts could not have been better or more helpful! They were welcoming, knowledgeable, accommodating, thoughtful, and love what they are doing. We loved the dinners and ended up eating there all but one night of our stay. The menu is set daily and everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The views from the hotel are incredible, we loved sitting on our porch and watching the clouds move in and out of the peaks, always changing and awe-inspiring. The same family has operated the hotel for more than 100 years and 3 generations were there during our stay. It was just what we were looking for in an authentic Swiss experience. Everything we wanted to do was conveniently located and accessible. It was ideal and we hope to return to this very spot in the future!

It's a credit to the extended family that has maintained Hotel Gletschergarten for four generations that it operates with the efficiency of a new hotel, but with all the charm and personal service of the 100+ year institution that it is. Views are better than the photos can portray. We dined in one night, and had one of the best meals of the trip. Breakfast was more than adequate, and the maids seemed to note when we left because the room was always cleaned upon our return from the dining room. Book a view/balcony room if possible. If you have more than light luggage and arrive by rail, call for a lift (we didn't and survived, but enjoyed the return trip in the hotel van at the end of our stay with Gerhard at the wheel). After 4 nights, we almost felt like members of the family...and wished we were.

We stayed at the Gletschergarten in August and could not have had a better stay. This was our first time in Grindelwald which is easily the prettiest alpine resort I have ever visited. The hotel is a 2 min walk from the busy centre which was a relief as the centre was packed with tourists. The room was very comfortable and the owners went out of their way to help us plan activities for our 2 young children. The food was great and the waiting staff and owners were always on hand to help. These days it is quite hard to find great traditional family run hotels like the Gletschergarten. We will definitely be going back very soon.

We were given a tip by a friend to stay in the Gletschergarten, but since we were on a budget we stayed in the "guide" room. It was sparse and not great, but had a wonderful view overlooking the glacier, Eiger and mountains in general. The family were wonderful who ran the hotel and gave us all sorts of good hiking advice. The setting cannot be beat, in terms of a wonderful town in the Berner Oberland, but we'll be sure to take a room inside the main hotel next time.

We stayed here for four nights total on a hiking trip arranged through Alpinwild. Though it is a bit of a walk from the train station, it is a great hotel and we had a great stay here. This is a hotel that has been run by the same family for a very long time, and they clearly take a great deal of pride in it. The service at the front desk and restaurant was personal and helpful, they spoke quite a variety of languages, and they remembered us after we returned from 3 days of hiking in the mountains. We were on a breakfast and dinner meal plan, the meals were varied and delicious, and were served in a room with huge windows looking out over the mountains. The location is perfect for hiking, with convenient access to many trails, buses, and trains, and there are lots of stores and restaurants in Grindelwald.

We had two days at the hotel and everything was good. A warm welcolm on arrival, good large room, good breakfast and evening meal. Great views when it stopped raining. I would go back again. Shame Switzerland is so expensive.
