“a warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This hotel has a family atmosphere, and the family and all the staff made us welcome. We had all the help and advice we needed, and were able to enjoy the hotel and its delightful setting in a relaxed way. I recommend it unreservedly for the personal touch.

My daughter (age 29) and I (age 65) stayed at the stupendous Hotel Gletschergarten for a week at the end of August/early September this year. We adored it! Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and we had great mountain views from our flower-bedecked balcony. Gaby and Gery (the owners) had expert advice for us every day and gave us maps that helped us find our way seamlessly on hikes and excursions. If you stay there, don't bother to eat anywhere else -- their dinners are a great value and their French chef is superb! Want to feel right at home in Switzerland? This is for you!

This family run hotel is the best place to stay. The couple who own it - Gary and Gabriella couldn't have been more helpful. They picked us up from the main train station. They advised us on what activities to undertake and organised all the tickets for us. The room did not have a kettle, but they loaned us one. We encountered unseasonal rains - they had umbrellas for us.

We had two rooms next to each other and they were great. Each room had a balcony with a view of the mountains. The breakfast served was basic, but good. My favourite thing to do was to sit at a different table each day as the view from each table was unique and different.

All in all a great experience. As we mentioned in the visitor book at the hotel "we hope to return"

Hotel Gletschergarten is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. We have stayed there many times, and keep returning. It is a charming family operated hotel, with awesome views from the flower bedecked balconies. Family members are your gracious, helpful hosts. They make all their guests feel so welcome, and they are always available and willing to help with recommendations and advice on the area. Dinners are beautifully served and delicious. We bought the six day travel pass, which allowed us to ride on all the lifts in the area, as well as the trains, buses, and the boats on Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. This is an excellent buy, even if your visit is not that long. Grindelwald is a great vacation spot, and you could not ask for a nicer place to stay or more hospitable hosts than you will find at Hotel Gletschergarten.

Hotel Gletschergarten is over a hundred years old. A very quaint, warm, welcoming & beautiful hotel made so by the friendly family of Gabriela & Gerhard Michel-Breitenstein.
The family is always on hand to guide their guests & help them with the travel plans & sightseeing.
Swiss hospitality at its best:)!
We had 2 lovely rooms with an attached terrace having a view of the awe-inspiring snow capped mountains & where we'd sit as often as could to take in all the beauty surrounding us.
Breakfasts were lovely & their staff is hard working.
We had 1 meal at the hotel too & it was well worth it.
Hotel Gletschergarten is about a 15 minute walk from the station & there are buses available too at intervals.
It is one place I would frequent more often, if possible & would definitely recommend it to family & friends!

Room Tip: the rooms on the 1st floor with the terrace that overlook the snow capped mountains :)

This hotel is excellent value for money. The rooms and common areas of the hotel are welcoming and comfortable, it is in a fabulous position and the owners and staff are simply fabulous. They are incredibly helpful and have great knowledge of the area and are only too willing to help. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Frances, Luxembourg

We just returned home from an 8 day trip to London, France and Switzerland. We didn't think each day would improve upon the last, but they did. We found the Hotel Geltschergarten on Trip Advisor and had emailed Gerhard several times regarding the hotel and activities in the region. He was so good at responding that we felt welcome even before we arrived at the Grindelwald train station. We enjoyed our walk from the train station to the hotel, stopping in shops and taking in the beautiful scenery. The hotel itself was stunning, with the flowers overflowing from their baskets and a lovely sitting area on the front porch. Our rooms were lovely, with a porch that had gorgeous mountain views. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel, and not only was it delicious, but they were so good at accommodating our vegetarian in the group. Gary and Gabriella helped us make our plans to travel to Jungfrau, which was our excursion for the following day.

Although we didn't stay long, we fell in love with the Swiss hospitality, thanks to Gary and Gabriella. They were awesome hosts and their hotel is top notch!
