“A very homely and welcoming stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

We stayed for two nights at this very nice, traditional hotel a 10 minute walk from the Grindelwald railway station.

As others have mentioned, the owners are very welcoming. We were even offered a choice of rooms (that's a first!). The room we chose had a beautiful view from the balcony past the church opposite to a glorious vista through the valley. There is also a fantastic view from the breakfast room.

As it was raining we were offered a lift down to the railway station. Excellent service from owners that are obviously passionate about their guests enjoying themselves.

While in town we also recommend a drink at the Avocado Bar and a meal at the C & M Cafe.

This hotel has been in the same family for over 100 years. The owners are friendly and helpful. There have definitely been upgrades over the years and overall it is nice. There are many family heirlooms displayed which add a homey kind of feel. The balconies are bedecked with beautiful flowers. We had the prettiest tiny hummingbird come to our balcony one morning to feed on the flowers. The floors are thin and could be a problem if you are a light sleeper. The Eiger was right in front of our balcony and we were fortunate to have beautiful weather every day. Breakfast was included and it was very good. We elected to dine there in the evenings and the food was superb. Our stay was wonderful, however, it is not for the budget conscious. Switzerland is expensive, the hotels, food, everything. I would give 4.5 stars overall.

This family owned hotel is a wonderful spot. It has been owned by the same family for four generations. They were very accommodating with our large family. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Also, when we wanted to experience some of the great activities Grindelwald has to offer, the staff was there to recommend the best. It's also convenient to most things in the city. Great find!

This hotel was one of the highlights of our trip to Switzerland. Myself, two 10 year old sons and husband stayed there for three nights. The location is spectacular with an short walk to the gondola, and just barely out of the main crush of town to make it an easy walk to stores and resturants. ( less than 10 minutes ) The owners are incredibly helpful and make great suggestions on how to maximize your adventure - they told us to buy the multi day gondola passes, and how we should take scooters and ziplines on our descent from the Jungfrau. The room was crowded but that was because they accomodated us with two double beds. But hte best part was that the owners young sons were around every day which was great fun for my children. The hotel has ping pong in the basement - which is more useful than you would think. The town is great, but this is a hiking town with easy access to Interlaken, it is not a nightlife town. We loved the Gletschergarten

Once again, Hotel Gletschergarten made for a wonderful time in Switzerland. 2012 was our 4th time to stay with Gabriella and Gary. It was excellent!! Great room, great food, great hospitality, great hiking. ... We stayed 8 nights this year, just got back to USA 4 days ago and we're already looking at our 2013 calendar to plan our next visit

We spent three nights at this enchanting hotel. It was a traditional chalet Swiss style hotel with comfortable rooms, geraniums overflowing the balcony flowerpots, an outstanding restaurant for both breakfast and dinner, and a great location away from all the tourist shops in Grindewald. But the best feature was that Gabriella and Gery were like family and they make you feel like you are at home. The warmth is contageous and we enjoyed ourselves immensely

I stayed 3 nights at the start of August with my young daughter. It is a traditonal Swiss hotel and the owners (now the 4th generation I think!) - Gary and Gabrielle - and all the staffs professionalism and sincere hospitality helped make this a magical trip.
On Swiss National Day Gabrielle even searched out a latern for my daughter to take part in the parade, which although a bit squashed now is treasure and has made its way back to Australia. Thank you for your kindness and your sincere hospitaility.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for Eiger view - the views are truely spectacular.
