This hotel is situated in an ideal location in the city of Grindelwald and others have amply described its beautiful location. The rooms we had were in the top of the building, so showering "under the eaves" was an interesting activity, since the tub was located in this area. However, the room had a nice big balcony which gave us a great view of the church and great view of the mountains (note: church bells only ring up to 2230 and start up again at 0730). Room was also very "alpine" and comfortable.

i've travelled well all over europe (off the beaten path) and besides for the Hotel Sommellerie in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, this is my absolute favorite. FANTASTIC hotel. GREAT value. PERFECT location. EXCELLENT room!!!!!!! the view - the view from the room is undescribable. our room, which had JUST been renovated and re-done to the nines, had an unreal view of the mountain!!!!! far exceeded our expectations. we LOVED our stay there. made our trip to Grindelwald totally worthwhile. will go back to Grindelwald JUST to stay there!!

If you hate walking in ski boots and want to eat good food and not lots of molten cheese, Hotel Fiescherblick is the place to stay.

You can ski back to the hotel, which is in the most stunning location opposite the church with the magnificent Eiger behind it, and the bus is right outside the hotels front door and takes to you the lifts.

For dinner, I had one of the most delicious house salads and the best scallops that I have ever eaen. The next night I had home smoked salmon and fresh trout. A delightful change to endless meals of molten cheese if you're not into meat. Apparently the meat is pretty good too.

Its a traditional swiss chalet style hotel with a lovely, relaxed feel. Grindlewald is a romantic, picturesque resort with loads of skiing and lots of good bars to stop for beers and delicious hot chocolates on the last run back to hotel.

Stayed 25 February 2006 for 4 nights.

The hotel is at the top end of Grindelwald, which was not a problem but could be if you had a walking difficulty as there is a hill and the pavements are obviously snowy at this time of year.

Location was OK though as it was near the Cable Car to First, had a ski bus stop right outside and was nearer to the better restaurants in the resort.

The owner and staff were very friendly, it had a good bar with a flat screen TV showing sport.

The price was good at 180 Swiss francs per day (approx GBP79) which was excellent value when compared to the prices of other hotels for the same time.

Breakfast was included but no more than average, but good views of the church and mountains from the small breakfast room.

Rooms were fairly compact, had small balconies, but relatively thin walls.

BEWARE: We had a room (303) which is looking down the hill towards Grindelwald and next to the church!!!. Every day at 6.30 am and half hourly thereafter the bells would ring. On a Saturday the local campanologist went mad with his bell ringing!! If you book a room request one at the back of the hotel and not looking over the road. Guests I spoke to who stayed at the back could not hear the bells.

Overall, good value, good friendly hotel, location good for some of the better restaurants. Would stay again at this hotel ....but not in earshot of the bells!

Great view, clean, agree with what has been said about the restaurant - very nice, including good breakfast. We stayed here in mid-February, 2006.

Issues:

1) This is on the main road, and that road traffic isn't what it was when the place was built in the ?1930's. You know the issue -- common in so many historical destinations. It is busy with tourist traffic and vehicles servicing the numerous hotels and businesses. There are also quite a few hotels up the hill, resulting in quite a bit of pedestrian traffic past our hotel, heading home from town center. Even in winter, the room was quite hot(no individual temp controls in rooms -- you are expected to open your windows/balcony doors). Would be same issue in summer. On a Friday and a Saturday night, there was traffic and loud pedestrian noise until 3 am+, and then the early am commercial traffic started about 6 am. No internal noise in the hotel -- nice insulation there.

2) If you are staying in Gridelwald, find out which side of the street your proposed hotel room is on -- I would go for one on the "Downhill" or "mountain" side of the main drag, so that the expensive view rooms are on the side of the building opposite the main street! Or, if facing the road, go for a place a bit further out of town than this. Or, book a less costly room with no moutain view, that doesn't face the main road -- and get out and see the scenery on foot.

3) We also found the proprietor to be rather cold, even selectively so to us, though we did not think we had given him a reason to be so. Maybe the "American" thing... At least the e-mail booking and correspondence with the hotel were very efficient and cordial.
