“Kruez and Post, Okay but with problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2006

There are so many hotel accomodation options in Grindelwald that there is no reason to stay at a sub-standard hotel such as this.

To begin with, this place is not cheap and for the same amount of money your options in Grindewald are virtually unlimited.

The staff was unfriendly, the furnishings were not kept up to date (the couch in our room and our sisters' room had rips in the cushions and were visibly worn), the pictures in the rooms and throughout the hotel were faded and old. The bathroom is quite nice, I think this is what they refer to when they say it is "renovated recently", however, the blue towels are worn and thin. The carpeting in our room had many brown stains on it and we wondered if a dog had stayed there previously. They did not have non-smoking rooms as we were told when we booked it. Upon check in we were told that they "use something" to remove the previous smoke.

They did set up a crib for my 6 month old and I found the crib and bedding to be clean and fun for him.

They advertise a "exercise room/ workout room" but none of the equipment was in operating condition. The steam sauna was a nice touch but due to the nude men who occupied this we didn't feel comfortable using it.

My sister (who stayed in a seperate room) asked the staff prior to our arrival if her beds could be seperated as she was rooming with our father. They agreed to set her room that way. When we arrived the beds were together. We asked that they seperate them and they told us that we had to do it ourselves, which involved re-arranging the whole room. The front desk girls didn't even get up from their chairs.

Breakfast was free but you get what you pay for. Fresh bread, eggs that you can hard boil yourself, granola, canned fruit cocktail, cereals, and some cold deli meats and cheeses were the choices. They close breakfast at 10 am but we found that they clean up at 9:35 or 9:40 even though people are still eating.

I hope this helps in your decision making for a future stay here. I only have a few pictures of the hotel and you can compare them to the owners' website ones.

We just come back from a lovely stay in Grindelwald. We found this hotel on internet. The room (standard superior) looked just as on the website. It was big and comfortable. However, there was a kind of distubrinb smoke smell in the room which was rather annoying. Appart from this, the location is great, and the breakfast is also very nice. I would recommend it but strongly advise non-smokers to ask for non-smoking room if available.

I was greatly alarmed by reading a recent negative comment about the Hotel Kreuz& Post.
For years I have been staying at that great family Hotel and have never had any negative experience. In fact my many visits to that hotel have begun to serve me as a standard by which I judge other Hotels in Europe and the US including Hotels operated by some very up-scale companies.
The owners are both envolved in the day to day operation, are always available and seem genuinly concerned about their guest's well being.
The guest rooms are up-to-date, immaculately clean and most have a spectacular view of the snowcapped mountains.
I might also add that there is no Hotel accross the street much less a Best Western.

I'll be back next summer!

They only have one room that looks the one shown on their website. The rest of rooms are drab 1950's with mismatched furniture. The owner threatened to call the police on me if I didn't honor my reservation! What a horrible woman and a dump of a hotel. Way too expensive for what you get. I moved across the street to the Best Western the next day.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at Kreuz & Post and found the hotel and town to be deflightful. The view from our rooms was great---and we enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching the sun change the colors of the incredible mountains in the evening. The town had several choices for dinners and the hotel breakfast was great---the staff were all wonderful, friendly and very helpful. Parking was also very easy. The area is great in the summer with the Jungfrau train just out the door, and many fabulous hiking and walking paths. It was a perfect "break from the city" and we hope to return. Don't be turned away by travel books that refer to this town as too touristy. Toursim is clearly the main industry, but they do it very well and the "visitors" in town were great and all looking for similar outdoor experiences.

Just got back from Grindelwald, Switzerland and stayed 3 nights at the Kreuz & Post Hotel. The staff was so friendly and the owners Mr & Mrs Konzett went out of their way to make all of their guests feel welcomed. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with great views and modern amenities. The hotel is walking distance to the rail station and the Sport Center & Tourist Office, with a bus stop directly across the road from the front door of the hotel. The hotel restaurant is traditionally decorated and offers a delicious menu with lots of variety for every preference. You can also enjoy dining outdoors with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and area ambiance. The hotel offers a nice spa area with saunas and whirlpool for guest use only. This is an excellent 4* hotel and I highly recommend it for singles, couples, or families.

Pleasant hotel right in the middle of town. Very convenient for the train station (the ski train takes you up one side of the valley), and there is a bus stop opposite for buses to the other lifts. Staff were friendly, breakfast excellent, room spacious, comfortable, and quiet. I only wish we had discovered the hot tub and sauna in the hotel a bit sooner.

Alll in all, a very good experience, and Grindelwald was a good place to ski as well for intermediates, the only real drawback being a fairly long wait for the first lift of the day.
