.. and what a view ! Located high on the slopes North of the village of Grindelwald, just at the treeline, this retreat is spoiled with lots of sun and a view of the surrounding mountains that is simply breathteaking. Sitting on the terrace, sipping your hot tea or glass of wine while watching the sunset (or sunrise for the brave..) reflecting on the glaciers.. it couldn't get much better than this!
We spent a wonderful weekend at the Waldspitz in early September. After a good day of hiking, this is the perfect location to stay overnight and escape the hustle and bustle of busy Grindelwald. Busy during the day with day tourists, the place becomes quiet once the last bus has left. A homely mountain restaurant with a sunny terrace, a cozy restaurant, and a few simple, very clean rooms (1 double, 1 family room (5pax), and 35 beds in larger dorms) - and most important - great host make this a perfect overnight stay in an amazing surrounding.
Ruedi and Chrigel made our stay a real experience. Greeted with a welcome drink on the terrace, we later enjoyed a hearty 3 course dinner, a few wounderful wines and 'Schnaps' from Ruedi's excellent liquor&wine collection, and on the next morning a wounderful breakfast with loads of local cheese, honey, and youghurt!
A great experience, and highly recommended!
Book yourself into the double room if available...it's worth it!
