My husband and I and a group of friends stayed at Chalet Gletschertal in May 2012. We rented the large apartment and the adjoining studio for a total of 4 double bedrooms and 2-1/2 bathrooms for 4 nights. While the furnishings are somewhat dated, the apartment is very well kept and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the nice kitchen which was equipped with a large fridge (large for Europe), stove and dishwasher. The only amenity we missed was a microwave, but we managed without it. The chalet has a large underground garage for parking a car. The biggest plus was the balcony with a stunning view of the Eiger and the valley below. Behind the chalet is a pasture with goats and sheep. The chiming of the bells will lull you to sleep at night. The chalet is located just 2 or 3 minutes from Grindelwald village where you can stock up on groceries at the local COOP. Switzerland is expensive for lodgings, and an apartment rental is an economical alternative to high-priced hotels. Preparing your own meals also saves money. Just be sure and enjoy the local restaurants for lunch or dinner. The food is hearty and wonderful in the Jungfrau region. If you plan a vacation with children, consider an apartment at Chalet Gletschertal. This was our second visit and we would go back in an instant.
