My family and me stayed in type Ried room in hotel, for 6 nights.

Hotel’s location was fantastic! Gstaad is 8 to 10 minutes train journey. Hotel is 4 to 5 minutes walk from the Schönried train station. On the way, to and fro from station, there is tempting hotel’s tennis clay court. You can hire the tennis kit from the nearby sports shop and start playing. On the other side of the hotel, there is beach volleyball court, owned by the hotel. You can sometimes watch professional players practicing on the volleyball court, from the hotel’s restaurant.

Negative point about the location is that the hotel is directly situated on the road, with the main entrance just about on the main road connecting to Gstaad.

Hotel’s reception was rather poor. We arrived in the hotel at 9.00PM, after a long tiring 4 hours journey from Zurich, but no one bothered to ask us whether we liked to have a drink or whether we were hungry, for dinner. After going through official formalities and being allocated a room, it was almost 9.30 PM that we realized that we were hungry and we should now go and eat. I went to reception and enquired for meals, as we had taken a 6 nights half board package that included dinner, but was bluntly refused and told that dinner timings were over, as it was until 9.00 PM. So, we had to go to some other restaurant in hotel where we paid for the exorbitantly costly food. I think, in the very first place, when we arrived in the hotel they should have asked for or at least informed us about the dinner timings. After all, the personal touch and consideration does matter.

There is no travel desk in the hotel. Hotel receptionists were always busy, attending other customers or doing other management chores. Sometimes, they were welcoming and helpful in telling us about the places to visit, but most of the times they were reluctant and stingy. In fact, once I was told quite annoyingly that why don’t we go to Schönried Tourist information centre? I think they should have a dedicated travel desk rather than making us feel guilty for disturbing them.

Surely, the senior management team appeared arrogant in their manners. Sometimes, in fact they were rude especially Mrs Foidl who, I think, does not know how to behave politely and courteously.

I wanted to buy Swiss flexi pass from the Schönried train station, but the station in charge told me to submit proof of our identities i.e. passport’s photocopy, as flexi pass is for foreign citizens only. The reception at the hotel has a printer and photocopier. So, I requested the receptionist to photocopy the passports. There were only 2 pages to be photocopied, as I photocopied 2 passports together. For my surprise, they charged me for 2 pages, 1 Swiss Franc each. You know! 2 Swiss Francs hardly matter, when you are spending more than 4000 Swiss Francs for the trip. But, all it shows is their cheapness, low standard, and their misdemeanour. It creates bad impression. It exposes them.

On the positive side, hotel’s restaurant staffs were very warm, welcoming and friendly. The hotel has 3 beautiful swimming pools, 1 warm salty indoor and 2 outdoors, one warm salty and another fresh, slightly cold. Located on the basement, hotel’s wellness and beauty centre: Vitalita and spa were excellent, very nice and clean.

When leaving, I asked for hotel’s comment card. To my surprise, I was told they don’t have comment cards or anything of that sort in this hotel. This is the first time I have ever stayed in a hotel where there aren’t comment cards available. It shows nothing but apathy, a lack of desire to review and improvise further.

To sum up, overall, we had a good experience in the hotel except for few isolated incidents. But, don’t you think so; we go on holidays to relax and this we know for sure that we didn’t have a 100% relaxing experience.

Me and my family just spent 3 nights at the Ermitage-Golf hotel in Schoenried. The hotel itself is a very nice wooden chalet set in a nice park with beautiful view on the mountains just around 10 minutes away from Gstaad. The rooms are very confortable (we had a JR Suite with a large balcony overlooking the mountains) and nicely furnished (chalet style). Bathrooms are really big and modern with a mix of wood and dark stone. The hotel is just 3 minutes away form Schoenried railway station where you have every hour a train to Gstaad so we didn't use the car during our 4 days there.

What is really fantastic about the hotel is the sport's and wellness installations. There are 2 large swimming pools; the first one inetrnal/external with salted water and quite warm (35 degrees) and the second one, larger where you can swim (water at 30 degres). You'll also find many diffrents saunas, very modern fitness facilities with flatscreens everywhere and a great offer of massages and body treatments.

With my 4 years old daughte, we spent hours in the pools and the rest of the time in the park.

Prices are not cheap but the offer we had (with breakfast, lunch and dinner) was a real bargain. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we will definitely return there very soon...

Sister hotel to the Beatus in Merligen, the hotel shares the same service led philosophy. Location in Schonried near Gstaad is excellent, with great walks nearby. Hotel facilities are good-this is a spa hotel. Management is excellent, as is most food. The a la carte restaurant is especially good.

Only fault in my view is that dogs are allowed in some areas of the hotel, including rooms

All hotels should take their cue for service from the Hotel Ermitage. Usually, we do not care to dine at the hotel during our stay, but the staff and the food make it a unique experience. If you have a full or half board (meals included), you are assigned a table during the length of your stay. Be prepared to dine very well and be waited on by extremely attentive staff that speaks at least four languages. English is not predominantly spoken (menus and programs do not have an English translations), but do not let that intimidate you: just embrace it and make it part of your experience. Although it is a short drive (or train that runs on the hour) from downtown Gstaad, the best slopes for skiing and boarding are literally steps away. We would have given the hotel a higher rating, except for the rooms and the Spa. The rooms are small, as are most European hotels, functional and extremely cozy, but not really spectacular. Then again, the views of Gstaad in the winter are breathtaking. The spa is simply OK (the reception is too small and the therapists are a bit overwhelmed). Nevertheless, the price difference between the higher end hotels (i.e. the Palace or Grand) makes it a much better deal.

Just returned from five nights at this splendid hotel - after a long drive, we were greeted very warmly with hot towels and a glass of fresh orange juice. We stayed in a Junior Suite on a package which included breakfast, a cake buffet in the afternoon and dinner. The room was lovely, with a huge terrace looking over the mountains and the outdoor pool. The food was superb, ten different types of bread at breakfast and 16 different blends of tea, an impressive (home-made) cake buffet, and five course gourmet dinner with a different theme every evening. Where I really differ in opinion however from the previous reviewer is the attitude of the staff - there were genuinely warm and welcoming, not at all arrogant and wanted to make sure you were having a good time. We loved our stay and will be going back.

A week or so after we returned we received a surprise package in the post - a large bar of Swiss chocolate from the Ermitage Golf with thanks for choosing them - what a delightful touch.
