“This Tour is a Hoax!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

My husband and I are extremely disappointed with our experience we had today, 10/27/12 with Meier Tours in attempt to visit the fabulous and breathtaking Jungfrau of which we heard so much about.

The day started extremely unorganized. We were all standing around in the cold rain with no direction - our tour guide- who was pleasant but very hard to understand (it was noted on he travel reservation we would have an english speaking guide) was barking orders at us and we didn't really understand what was going on. We finally loaded the bus(no one  said anything the group kind of migrated) and my husband and I sat down and people started yelling at us in German. We basically go kicked out of our seats-- Noone told us there were assigned seats! It was really unprofessional. And we didn't realize that the bus had come from elsewhere. There was zero communication. Had we been told we would have had no problem with this. It was a frustrating way to start off a $200 plus per person adventure.

We ventured to the train- and were handed maps - still no explanation as to what was going on. We were being heard like sheep following the tour guide who was at most times no where to be found. This is what i have the biggest problem with-- We were told that the top of Jungfrau is sunny and blue skies since we asked about the rain we had in the Interlaken area were we departed from. We were told over and over again we were going to high up it wasn't a problem. It was a light snow on our way up-- were on vacation and are eager for these new experiences..... Of course we trusted this tour!

Well long story short we got up to the top, sphinx observation,to be exact and it was a complete white out! We couldn't see one foot in front of us. I wanted to cry   i have been looking forward to this for months --yes we understand its the alps- the mountains- weather is unpredictable however why would this tour operate and take up 7 hours or our precious vacation time when it was known that it was a snow storm up there?and we were told that it was blue skies.  It's completely ridiculous we should have at least been given the option to either back out or get our money back and we weren't. And we were 11333 feet in the mountains and we were helpless once we were up there. It's really upsetting that the company does not inform its patrons of The conditions on top of the mountain. son please be weary! I would say to book this tour day of if you can and do your research. They will lead you into thinking this is going to be an unforgettable experience no matter what the weather!

While having lunch our waitress was so sweet to talk to us she could see we were upset and she said that there has been a storm since yesterday(Friday) and will last until Monday. Now isn't that the tour groups job to inform of the weather conditions.  We really feel ripped off!

This is our 6th tour during our stay in Europe- the other 5 have been 5 star and this is negative 5.  My husband and I did  not have a pleasant experience with Meier Tours - it was unorganized, inefficient and didn't deliver the purpose of this excursion - seeing this majestic Mountain- all we got was windburn, a face full of snow and ice and a headache. It was complete chaos and I would not recommend them to anyone in pursuit to enjoying the beauty Switzerland has to offer.

“If Weather is Good, Spectacular Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

The cograil system to the Jungfraujoch (the highest train station in Europe, and billed with some justification as "the Top of Europe") is celebrating its 100th birthday in 2012, and it still is a remarkable achievement. The regular Swiss rail system gets you to Lauterbrunnen from Interlaken (get your tickets for the cograil at Interlaken if you don't already have them), and you transfer to the cograil at Lauterbrunnen (itself a spectacular location at the bottom of an iconic alpine valley). You transfer again at Kleine Scheidegg (there are wonderful views as the train climbs to Kleine Scheidegg and for the limited period above Kleine Scheidegg before the train enters the very long tunnel created through the Eiger and the Jungfrau. There are two places where the train stops for awhile and there are viewing galleries carved out of the mountain (glass walled, of course), At the end, one can (and definitely should) take advantage of the eating and viewing facilities (outside terrace is an option) at the Sphinx Terrace, at 3571 m (11,715 feet), well above the permanently frozen glaciers below. It is also possible to leave the facilities and walk part way up the remaining mountain in permanent snow (they do plow a bit so you don't sink too far in it).

While this is a well worthwhile excursion on a good day (and can be done on a one and a half hour train trip from Zurich -- each way to Interlaken, with an additional 2 plus hours each way from there to get to the top), it is not cheap, and would probably be a dissapointment if the weather at the top is not clear. Luckily, there are several permanent webcams mounted on the way up, so it is possible to check in advance before you start the effort. But definitely look before you go, and allow a full day, unless you are starting in Lauterbrunnen.!

“Jungfrau, Switzerland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Jungfrau in Switzerland is a definite "Must see" on your list when visiting Switzerland.
The trip up the mountain starts with a train journey - this in it selves is wonderful. The different stops have amazing look-out points.
The facilities onto of Jungfrau is fantastic. I loved the ICE cave with it sculptures; as well as the history about the exploration of the mountain.
But everything regarding Jungfrau will be a treasured memory for always!!

“Fantastic Trip From Lucerne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We did the day trip from Lucerne to Jungfrou, It took about 4.5 Hours each way, but was worth it. the trip along the way was spectacular! Amazing scenery.

We got 25% off the tickets to Jungfrou with the eurail pass And the trip from Lucerne to Interlaken was free with the pass.

Was nice to get up there and play in the snow and see the ice sculptures.

Advice - take some water with you and wear a warm jacket as it is cold up there.
