“On a clear day...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013 via mobile

We fortunately had a clear day for a day trip from Montreux, (thank you SwissPass and Trip Advisor forum) and the cable cars (3) to 12,700 feet to see the world in including the famous Matterhorn (a good deal higher) bring you to a truly spectacular view point where you ride up with skiers in May but you get to ride down. Not cheap - about $100 pp, half off with a Swiss Pass, but really worth the effort.
Highly recommended, as is the "glacier tunnel " for an extra $10.

“Magnificent Panorama”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Enjoy absolutely stunning views of the spectacular mountain range. The cable car ride is fun, even if you are packed in a bit like sardines! Be prepared for cold conditions on top - it was minus 11 during our visit and a really bitter wind. After some fun in the snow, a hot chocolate soon warmed us up.

“trip to the top.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

When you decide to go to the top to view the Matterhorn. If it is cloudy at the bottom and you decide not to go on it stop.Go it is a beautiful ride up the mountain and most likely clear up there. When you get up there you can walk around or get a bit to eat or to the bathroom or spend your money on gifts.Well worth the time to do it.

“Amazing adventure but be prepared for cold weather at the top.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We were in Zermatt in October and took the three cable cars that it takes to reach the Glacier Palace at Klein Matterhorn. Looking up from the town of Zermatt where you catch the first cable car, it was absolutely beautiful. The weather in Zermatt was 22c, sunny and calm but when we got to the top at 3883 meters it was -5c with 80 kph winds and blowing snow. It actually felt more like blowing ice crystals. We loved it!

From the cable car station at the summit you walk through a long tunnel which has a restaurant at the end that serves very good meals. I had some fantastic soup but I guess anything that was hot would have tasted good.

The other highlight was the Glacier Palace which is tunnels and rooms cut into the glacier. It's quite interesting but you're surrounded by ice, so it is cold. At 3883 m.a.s.l. the air is quite thin so you can feel a little light headed for a while so watch your step as you're moving around. There's also an outdoor viewing platform that gives you a 360 degree view of the mountains around you. Unfortunately on the day we were there is was a little cloudy, to say the least.

On the way up in the last of the cable cars (the big ones), there were only 6 people, but on the way down were packed shoulder to shoulder with a ski team that was up there practicing. They had all their equipment and skis and I was a little uncomfortable with that many people on the car at one time, but those big cable cars are rated to carry 100 people, and we only had maybe 60 plus equipment, so we were well within the tolerances.

We were with a tour group of about 40 people in total but only myself, my two sisters and my brother-in-law went to the top out of the entire group. I'm so glad we did. It's a memory that I will remember for as long as I live.

Don't miss it. If I was were to go to Switzerland again and only had the choice of doing one thing, this would be it. Fantastic.

“Matterhorn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Zermatt is beautiful. Nice shops, great chocolate shops ! Go inside the church. Cable car ride up the mountain was a little crowded but not really an issue. Enjoy the view. Stunning. We had great views of the Matterhorn. Got great pics.
