“Cobblestone and Character”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Painted walls, cobblestone streets--old town Lucerne is charm, charm, charm. So much color, so much artwork. We tried to get lost on the streets--practically impossible. Walked around the old walls and just wandered throughout this charming city. There is a department store with a restaurant on top that serves fondue. We didn't hear that this was the local specialty until the last day and they weren't serving it at lunch so we missed out. But we didn't miss out on seeing the outdoor restaurant on the top of the department store. What a sight. Lots of tiled roof tops. And although it had been cloudy during most of our visit, the sun came out and we saw a sparkling lake.

“Pedestrian zone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

Nearly the whole old town is for pedestrians only and there are a lot of nice shops for all tastes, all built in the old houses. Unfortunately opening times are "catholic", don't go there on Sundays if you don't want to end up in the tourist traps. Luzern has many good bakeries - some of which with attached bistro. If you hotel doesn't offer breakfast, you may want to try Hug near Spreuerbrücke, wich also offers a nice view to the river Reuss.

“Exceptionally Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

In December I took a guided tour of Old Town in Lucerne during a snowstorm. Even with wet feet and feeling very cold I loved the buildings and quaint streets. On Sundays the shops are not opened for business making for less conjestion. I want to go back to Lucerne to see it in the warmer weather. It is a lovely place to visit.

“Clean, walkable and charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

The old town of Zurich is small yet really mysterious. There are still some small lanes that I kept discovering each time I'm there. It is clean and neat. It is really charming and not too crowded. It is my favourite part of downtown Zurich. There are a number of good bars and restaurants for a good hang out.

“Only a small part of the old town is actually impresive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

The old Town of Lucerne is very nice, especially the lake side part with the famous wooden bridges. But the inner side of the old town is pretty average, apart from some beautiful buildings. There are lots of commercial stores situated in the old town, that steal its charm. So if you are on a short journey, don't bother to spend too much time in the streets of the old town.
