“The service was not up to its standing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

I stopped to the Hermitage for a night on a trip back to Italy with my family during summertime. The hotel it's in a very beautiful location on the shore of the lake. The room was very beautiful and clean. So far so good, now comes the knotty points: the service during the dinner and breakfast. When we entered the restaurant we were welcome by a waitress that could barely understand/speak english. Since we were dining on the outside terrace (with a splendid view) during sunset the waiter came lighting the candles (the only source of light) in all the tables except ours. We had to ask for a baby seat for our youngest child (who is 14 months old) when in most restaurants is the most obvious question that waiters ask (Do you want a baby seat?). In the morning we had to ask for a baby seat again and we were even ignored by the waitress until, after wating more than 5 minutes, I had to go myself picking up one. The wine for the dinner arrived only after the dishes and because I reminded to the waiter. These and other details gave us the impression that we were treated a bit like second-class customers with respect to the (mostly German speaking) habitués.

Had as usual a nice time at the HERMITAGE, no complaints. We highly recommend the place, the sun was shining picturesque view of the PILATUS and BUERGENSTOCK.
Luzern is a beautiful city so the HERMITAGE combines with sightseeing one could not wish for a more perfect mix. The paddle steamers are great.

Room Tip: on the original part of the Hotel the rooms have got full size balconies, however, we prefer the new...

Stayed a couple nights at the Hermitage and it was indeed quite nice.

I managed to get the 'big deal' they had going for two nights which really made it worthwhile - picked up a four course dinner the first night, free bike, free drink at bar and some other small perks.

First the food at the restaurant - top notch. I was very pleasantly suprised, it was very good and came with paired wines. Just rounded out the day nicely having driven in from Rome.

The bike was a nice touch (free) - you could also pay up for a motorized one of some description but its not worth it imho. Great way to get downtown and see the waterfront. Was a nice bike as well, not a beater; shocks on front and seat post - only thing it could have maybe used was a basket.

The room itself was nice enough albeit that 'style' of starkness with a signature piece (I had a big lit up picture in my room, not sure what the others have). Balcony was definitely worth the 30 chf more a night. Toiletries were good - verbena. Bathtub had a nice side view of the lake. Of course the room itself and balcony has a great view.

Buffet breakfast was ok enough. I was a bit late my two mornings so it was a bit thinner on the ground but still all in all decent enough (oh, that was one of the other freebies off the 'big deal'.

Downsides - shower water pressure was a bit low; think its one of the watersaving heads which end up taking longer to use and probably don't save any water. Room definitely could hear everything next door and through the vents. I had a family with a couple screaming kids the first night which fortunately left. You didn't need screaming volume to hear things, you could hear everything. For some reason both nights there was stuff getting moved downstairs on the patios (dragging around tables/chairs or something). Not ideal.

Internet; arg, just always a peave - I have a great balcony and.....the signal can just barely get there. It would work for a bit and then poof, you thought you were going to get something done and.....relogin and/or have to move into the room. Fortunately there is a high speed cable provided but again, you are pinned back in the room when you want to be on your balcony. Same issue downstairs at breakfast....1 bar if lucky in the restaurant.

All things considered though, a nice hotel with a lot of nice little touches (umbrellas provided for instance) that put it well above average.

We were on honeymoon and came to Lucerne after visiting London and Paris....and Hermitage was the only hotel which gave us the real feeling of honeymoon. As we entered the room our jaws dropped. Fantastic view of lake and mountains, calm and peaceful atmosphere, courteous and helpful staff...the hotel had it all.
Words would not be enough to praise the hotel and its staff. Altogether it was a great experience.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights with our 3 year old daughter in a double room superior. What a big spoil! The view is so beautiful. You can't stop looking. We pulled up chairs and just stared out at the boats on the lake, the paddlers coming past, the mountain changing colours as the sun goes down... The room was very spacious, even with the sleeper couch made up for our daughter and all amenities were of a very good quality. The beds were super comfortable (yes, even the sleeper couch). A big plus was the coffee and tea in the room - we cannot function without our first coffee in the morning and this does not seem to be standard in European hotels. The bathroom also had a bath, which was convenient having a small child. The staff was really friendly and very helpful. Overall we felt like the hotel was pricy, especially as breakfast was not included, and at CHF25 per person, breakfast is expensive! We did have breakfast on our last morning, and the spread was really good, but still, expensive. We would love to go back, maybe at a cheaper time - but it was the perfect start to our holiday in Switzerland.

Room Tip: All rooms are lake facing, we stayed in the new building, can't comment on the rooms in the old...

Stunning location and rooms!

Service was up to the mark of a property like this.

Visited in 2013 April, my first time in Lucerne - and was travelling on my honeymoon...

They surprised us from the moment we opend our room door ;)

The most fabulous thing of all was the location of this Hotel, probably one of the only few hotels located on the shores of the lake.

Merely 10 mins by bus from the Central station - it is very convenient to travel, there is a bus every half an hour...

For us honeymooners, this was just perfect! Not too much noise and at the same time has paradise like views of snow peaked mountians with a private balcony overlooking the lake!

For car enthusiasts! they actually have a Wiessmann parked during the summer for rides!!!

Highly reccomend - of all the hotels we visited in the trip - this was one of the nicest :)

P.S.- The room was really spacious and the bathroom had a view overlooking the lake and the snow capped mountains.

We were so delighted with our room at the Seehotel Hermitage that we changed our travel plans to extend our stay in Luzern for two extra nights to enjoy the area from such a wonderful base. The staff were all helpful with every question asked about the local area and our room needs. The room was large and simply lovely, with a wonderful view overlooking the lake toward Mt. Pilatus. Plenty of room to hang and store clothes for several days. We were away from the hustle of bustle noise of the city, yet were able to get into town quickly with the handy bus stop right out front and the 10 minute ride. Can't say enough about the Swiss public transportation system, including buses, trains and boats. The breakfasts were top notch with plenty of variety, but we especially loved the personal "morning wake-up" blended drink of fresh fruit and yogurt. We would definitely try to stay here again for our next Swiss adventure.

Room Tip: We loved our room in the new wing on the 5th floor. Great view!
